A dude had like 10 copies on eBay for $70 a couple years ago I should have bought them all but I grabbed two and then put the link in the vinyl thread. That was a great day.
Same dude has two copies for $250 a pop now lol
Let me start by saying the album is great
But it’s also become overrated because of its scarcity, artsy bent that online fans like, and people only remembering the highs
Some of the more electronic beats on the album haven’t aged the best, they sound very of their time and imo don’t fit that well with the Madlib dilla oh no stuff.
Also it was the start of mos putting in a little less effort on the mic, it worked mostly but a couple of the more freestyled parts aren’t that amazing
It’s like an 8/10 solid 4 mics which is more than respectable for something with clearly not much effort put into it

What do you consider the more electronic beats? Personally for me it’s a flawless album except for roses. I really don’t like roses at all.

Life In Marvelous Times is the only beat that could be considered 'Electronic' on there imo
2words is just being 2words imo
Mos/Bey was more abstract with his writing than prior to this but he was still locked in

@iamiguel yeah Life in marvelous times beat sucks
The other one I was thinking of was Twilite Speedball, for me it’s a miss by the Neptunes and doesn’t fit the album the best, the instruments sound cheap here to me and the melodies aren’t good
I know it’s just two tracks but they throw the album off for me along with a few other things
How bout he reissues True Magic and give us actual packaging
Do we really need that lol?
his best work to me still

nitpicking like hell
nitpicking like hell
Nitpicking? Nah
Those two joints is like if Madvillainy had 2 random Neptunes singles on it but they’re the worst tracks they ever did. It just don’t work for a project like this
one of the best rap albums of all time
Are you serious? Post your top 50 rap albums then

it was the 2000s. thats the thing you WANT this to be like a madvillainy but mos has far different sensibilities than doom
