The 2026 midterms are the staging grounds.

    Mail-in Ballot Control

The order, titled “Ensuring Citizenship Verification and Integrity in Federal Elections,” says that states can send the U.S. Postal Service a list of voters “to whom the State intends to provide a mail-in or absentee ballot” 60 days before any federal election, and directs the Postal Service to create “unique ballot envelope identifiers, such as bar codes” for those voters.

Separately, the executive order also directs the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to work with the Social Security Administration and use other federal databases to create a list of all adult citizens residing in each state and send it to the state’s chief election official, though it noted that voters would still be required to register to vote in accordance with state law.

Dissolving Voting Rights Act to minimize Black-Hispanic Voting power

If the court, which holds a 6-3 conservative majority, strikes down the provision in question, Section 2, a number of majority-minority congressional districts that were created to help voters of color elect their preferred candidates could be eliminated. Many are in Republican-controlled states in the South.

  • Speculation as to how ICE could influence elections

In his confirmation hearing, Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin said that he couldn’t “guarantee hypothetically what threat would be” at a polling place that would warrant sending agents to the polls.

Federal immigration agents could, however, try and intercept people “outside of the electioneering zone,” said Patrick Eddington, a senior fellow at the libertarian think tank the Cato Institute. That type of chilling effect, he argued, could have an outsize influence on which party will control the House of Representatives.

“I think it’s a perfectly plausible activity if White House officials pick in advance 10 to 20 districts to be outside where that kind of activity could materially suppress the vote enough to actually have a determinative effect in favor of the Republicans,” Eddington said.

you see, factoring in race is fine when ICE and cops want to profile you for crimes/deportation-slash-trafficking/indefinite detention/death but a step too far when it comes to making ones voice heard politically and undoing a part of the Jim Crow era

If the Democrats win in 2028 they must expand the court. It's one of the only ways to start making any meaningful changes.
