Great twitter thread highlighting this. For those that are around my age and grew up on this you just know but for those who are younger not only was the show itself great and unique in its own right, but it had a heavy influence and emphasis on black artists that was exceptionally rare for a show that was primarily for kids. Whether it be the theme song by TLC

Or the multitude of legendary hip hop and R&B artists they had perform on the show it really was just one of a kind. A truly legendary show that I hope its legacy will live on forever

I kept wanting to say this show was ahead of its time but honestly there isn’t anything in the modern day that compares. The fact that it’s almost an anomaly in retrospect is sad
