Edit: got my diagnosis yesterday, felt I was doing a terrible job explaining/answering the questions
Got diagnosed with combined type
Getting Vyvanse/Elvanse on Monday
Let's hope it goes well
Does feel like a weight lifted off my shoulders, can't help but look back at my wasted education potential though
I went to a great university but I could never revise properly in school and always missed homework/project deadlines etc
When I did manage to apply myself I would frequently ace exams and things but it was so hard to do + poverty & the struggles of a single parent home in a neighbourhood where the kids were a bad influence, I'm just glad I made it out, most of the locals unfortunately succumbed to the lifestyle.
Got me thinking about my friend from the neighbourhood who got killed at a party, dude was the first bad influence I had but I managed to avoid it, I still miss my dawg though
Got my ADHD appointment this week, after waiting for so long & 3 failed years of anti-deps
Any suggestions for how I should approach the process?
Assuming I get the diagnosis (which is likely) I'll be picking up my medication on Monday
My ADHD case, in general terms, somewhat gifted so I always managed to make it by wifh studies but I could never bring myself to work in a timely manner or revise effectively
Constantly feeling tired, struggling to do somewhat monotonous tasks
I fit the majority of inattentive & hyperactivity symptoms, would've been diagnosed since a child but I have parents who are medical skeptics who didn't want me to be on them (imagine how my life could've been if they didn't make that choice for me)
As a child I was super hyperactive but I subconsciously learned to mask without realising.
Lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse/Elvanse)
Methylphenidate (Concerta/Ritalin)
Dexamfetamine (Dexedrine)
Atomoxetine (Strattera)
are the options this clinic offers & I'll be having a titration period where I'll get to try and find the one that works for me
Any and all advice would be appreciated
& i am a creative although I'm not really too worried about it affecting that
Flubber, like rubber we out
Bold sections to save time if you just have general advice

try not to come off like a stimulant fiend, because if you do, you can get labeled as 'drug seeking'
don't ask for a specific medication
just remain calm and let them assess / treat you
if you don't like them, move on
don't give them your whole life story, but be transparent about what you're dealing with specifically
They prescribed me strattera (non stimulant, builds up in your system, have to take it daily) when I went through this because there’s been an effort to move away from stimulants (esp bc of adderall shortages) I was skeptical at first but it def works for me
It hasn’t drastically changed my life but it def helps my mind stay less scattered and more focused. I do miss a bit that feeling though. I feel more like a normal person lol, but I guess that’s the goal. Less anxiety too which I think was caused by my adhd. Once you start medication it’s hard to stop, and I hope you understand that
i was pretty sure i have adhd for most of my life but didn’t take it seriously until a while ago. funnily enough it was a youtube comment section of people with adhd describing their issues that made me realize how bad it is/can be.
now i’m actually texting people and trying to get an appointment as soon as possible.
i hope all goes well for you and you’re able to get some clarity. please feel free to keep the thread updated as i will be reading. good luck!
Don’t even want to self diagnose but I got ADD 100%, never cared to go to a doctor though cus I have absolutely no desire to get on amphetamines lol

Damn. I’m a little bit afraid of the normal person part. But undiagnosed adhd or something else has had me in shambles for a while

Yeah I mean I’m still me. I think I just miss how frantic and almost manic I used to get sometimes. It made me feel alive. It was what I was trying to stop but I still feel like everything feels a little, very subtly, different now
I got medicated just because i felt like I needed to get my work under control. In some ways it’s better, many ways it’s the same I just worry less. I didn’t want to take too high of a dose bc I didn’t want to change (I take a lower dose than 90% of people on it)
But I’m not freaking out all the time about how I’m too scattered so I guess that’s positive. That's more ‘normal’
Based on your explanation this at fault of the school for sure. It is their job to recognize and assess after issues like that in school.
Vyvanse is always the best initial treatment attempt in my opinion. Generally less side effects and it's smooth.
Straterra is good if stimulant meds cause too many issues. My sister was on it for a long time due to having tics/tourettes syndrome and it helped her but never as much as the stimulants later on in life.
There's more options than what you listed out there too just fyi
What dose? Vyvanse is light on those kind of effects unless you take extra but don't f*** your tolerance up doing that. It's not one you can snort or anything other than swallow regardless of what sorority girls might say
Unless you just mean you have a hard time in general cleaning which makes sense rather than tweaker cleaning lol
don’t talk about medication options or anything just let them dictate that now that ur diagnosed, they prolly will start u on concerta never do more than ur recommended dose trust me it just f***ing sucks

36mg concerts is best to start with if u have that then ramp it up or down to Ritalin, adderal, vyvanse etc depending on ur need
Op REDUCE ur ktt use on ur medication bro u will be on here just locked in on every convo otherwise
I used to be on Straterra. I stopped taking them in college. I don't know why the f*** I did that, I'm still very ADHD. To a point where it's derailing my life a little bit.
I should probably get back on ngl.

Experiment with dif medications and doses and check if u have other s*** like anxiety or depression cuz they interact with the meds

When I got diagnosed
My life changed FOR THE BETTER
it's sorta confirmed that my weirdness or oddities, eccentric skills etc weren't just fluff but thats because of my brain
I stopped trying to hide or being normal, suppressing my normal me, gave the world the me I am behind closed doors
And never looked back
Am quite successful in my own way
