This art style kind of whack
naaaa. it’s an acquired taste i guess, but i really like it.
I want to get back into Berserk. I only read up to the end of the Golden Age Arc. but I always hear people say that after that it slowly just becomes a generic fantasy series and never hits that high again
its mostly that the tone of the manga radically shifts as guts develops. some would argue that the pacing isn't as good anymore, but thats because its a lot more focused on world building and developing multiple characters.
the only 2 real detractions i'd give post-golden age berserk are repetitive armored guts fights and the first 20 chapters of the fantasia arc, which should have been like 5. the rest of the arc so far has featured multiple fantastic chapters, including the most recent one
I really binged oregairu so i could watch 3rd season only to find out its delayed, f*** I hate this
Wasted all that time watching and than reading haikyuu
Watching Haikyuu the most the most valuable thing you could do with your time bro wym
Episode 4 of Kill la Kill felt like crazy filler but the rest has been fire. I like the animation style now too, it just took time to get used to.
I’m currently on episode 6

I really wish this show wasn’t based around nudity but the story is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

Your Lie in April - 4/10
Ya know when I started typing about random s*** that stood out for me I didn't expect it to be this long.
Alright I'll address the elephant in the room for me when it comes to this one: why the f*** are their so many flashback sequences? I think Kousei's flashbacks of his mother abusing him appear in at least half the episodes and if you combined their runtime there would be enough footage to make an entire episode. Other scenes that are consistently shown are Kousei's view of Kaori performing during their joint performance and Kousei huddling in a corner as a child after breaking down. These scenes, in addition to other flashback scenes kill any and all form of pacing. If you removed every unnecessary flashback in this show I genuinely think you could knock at least 7 episodes off.
The use of comedy I didn't like that much either. One of the major themes in the show was Kousei's physical abuse and subsequent trauma but for some reason the main comedy used is slapstick and involves Kousei's friends beating the s*** out of him which completely clashed with that theme. The timing of the comedy was s*** also: so many serious moments in the show were completely undermined by a comedic outburst. The random comedy timing resulted in huge mood whiplash and it wasn't particularly funny either since its randomness meant it didn't even have a proper set up.
Something else that was hammered in throughout the show was that music can convey emotions and thoughts that words can't. That's why I have no f***ing idea why they felt characters should monologue over every single performance and drown out the music. The music performances were good, like in Kousei's first performance with Kaori his inability to hear the piano notes is visualized with him playing the piano underwater and the audio of his piano notes is drowned out. We already get the idea using our eyes and ears so I don't know why we need Kousei to monologue this information for us. That's just one example of this s***, it happens every single performance for some reason.
Every side character was useless: Aiza was the only character whose story aligns with the major themes of the show since his motivation for performing changes from surpassing Kousei, to moving forward as his own man and instilling his own personality and flair into his performance.
Kaori is barely a person. We barely get any insight into her thoughts about her situation. Even when she is dying in a hospital bed the show ignores her for basically the entire day. All we're left with is Kousei playing the piano while he sees Kaori's spirit lmao. She's just there to conveniently advance the plot.
Things I liked were that the show had beautiful colours and the animation was pretty good. The first OP is one of my all time favourites with so many of its scenes foreshadowing the story. The last performance where everyone finally shut the f*** up was good too and I don't know why they didn't do that for the entire series.
s***s overrated af, good review

Where the manga is at now and how the tournament ended was disappointing to me. Plus the 2 year time jump doesn’t make any sense.
