The Tatami Galaxy - 7/10

The Tatami Galaxy is usually one of the first shows people think of when it comes to "elitist" anime so I was expecting something pretty left field but the show and its message is pretty damn simple: it doesn't matter what choices you make as long as you make the most of the opportunities given to you and live with no regrets.

Why is it considered elitist? Is it the different art style? The fast dialogue? The storytelling method? Who f***ing knows dude.

I loved all the different visual styles they used throughout the show. Episode 10 in particular was very fun and was probably the most visually unique piece of anime I've watched since Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei season 2. It's not a case of style over substance either because in this case the style IS substance. The way Watashi's character model turns into rigid cubes when he gets nervous and freezes up is an example of this. We're seeing the story through the eyes of the protagonist, and as his views on the world change so do the visual styles and colours used.

The way the show slowly peeled back the layers of each character was great. Again, we're seeing the story from Watashi's biased perspective. But as the Watashi repeatedly time loops we start seeing these characters in new situations (e.g. Jougasaki training him) These characters didn't change, it's just that the lens that we view them from does.

It was amazing how all the story elements wove together seamlessly. The way events from one episode show up in both earlier AND future episodes is executed flawlessly. From a pure storytelling perspective there are very few shows I can put above this one, but I guess I should have seen that coming considering the show was based off an actual novel and not a manga or light novel.

Dorohedoro aoty so far. The world building, the characters, the music, the artstyle are all amazing. Only thing I didn't like was the CG, it just didn't look that good (especially the action scenes)

Honestly titans better, jojo too probably but I was laughing all the way through mob, never thought anime could be that funny
