Kizumonogatari trilogy
shafts animation isnt particularly great for their tv stuff but they really brought out all the stops for the kizu movies
what kind of show is Re:Zero?
It's an isekai about a guy that can rewind time everytime he dies but has to deal with all the pain of losing everyone he loves, watching his attempts at a better life fail everytime and ofc the pain of dying multiple times.
It's not the typical ''life in another world where the mc powers up and beats monster''
Instead, the main character of rezero is neither a brave fighter nor a p****. He's just a normal guy that knows when to fight and when to give up(there's literaly a scene where he kills himself to avoid tragedy).
The cast of supporting characters is great too with interesting developments that makes you invest in 'em.
The ''villains'' in the first few episodes are normal ''villains'' like serial killers, gangs of thieves etc and as the story develops you get cults and even mythical creatures but the main antagonist of the series is like a lurking shadow which I hope the new season will expand on.
tldr: re:Zero is a great show to watch, go watch it now

It's very artsy with a unique directing style, like the whole Monogatari series. Got some super dope action scenes, with top notch animation.
Might not be for everyone but if you are into this you will love it. Haven't watched any anime I could compare it to tbh

Just to clear this up: when I say animation I mean the actual movement on the screen, not the artstyle. I know some people in this thread call artstyle as animation for some reason and I'm not sure if you're one of them.
And yes, in my opinion, outside of the Kizu movies the Monogatari series animation isn't that impressive compared to notable shows from other studios. A large portion of the Monogatari series is shots of the surrounding environment, black screens with white text when hearing Araragi's internal thoughts, and characters staying still talking to each other. Its few standout moments (e.g. Bat vs Cat fight, Araragi and Shinobou's bath scene, any scene involving Karen, etc) are phenomenal and can easily match up with notable shows from other studios but those don't show up very often so its lack of consistency drags it down for me.
3gatsu in general there's just very little to talk about. Outside of some of the big emotional scenes where they can show off character acting (sakugabooru.com/post/show/41024) or some of the more intense stylized scenes (sakugabooru.com/post/show/30831), the baseline animation isn't really that notable.
When you see how many clips those two shows have on Sakugabooru compared to the amount of episodes they have, the inconsistency is pretty glaring imo.
I also said Shaft's animation generally wasn't great because I was taking into account their other shows that I've seen like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Hidamari Sketch, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Koufuku Graffiti, and Madoka.
I canβt stop watching Kaguya
Imma watch Gurren Lagann or Bakemonogatari so I can save these last Kaguya episodes
hit gurren lagann, show exudes masculinity and is a nice hero battle story...

Monogatari series most of the time they just standing still and talking

I understand where you're coming from, and to a degree i agree with you. But its kinda unfair to compare the monogatari series, a slice of life where the focus is dialogue, to other shows from notable studios, because shaft didn't have much to work with. I applaud them for making a series about dialogues entertaining through interesting camera shots, great composition and overall pretty good direction. Most of the show doesn't have jaw dropping animation because there isnt much to work with, but in action packed scenes the animation gets pretty f***ing good, as you mentioned.
As for sangatsu i think its the same: this show is also not action packed so they don't have much platform to showcase great animation, but imo just the fact they managed to stay true to the manga art style is great, plus the animation really shines when we're inside the characters' minds, especially during the shogi matches (aside from the clips you showed, i would add sakuratou's inner monologue in the burnt field arc, but there are probably more great scenes i do not remember atm). The animation in these scenes shows a character's personality and state of mind better than how words could, especially with kiriyama.

Yeah, if you compare monogatari with say demon slayer then of course the latter would be better animated than monogatari, but these two shows are so different that comparing them in any way would be stupid. Compare monogatari to other slice of lives and you can really see how good its animation is. There's only so much you can do animation wise when two characters are talking to eachother for a long period of time
This guy Subaru is definitely a p****
nah bro he could've left emilia/rem/everybody and just go ''fuck this s***, I'm out, I'm gonna be a farmer from now on''
but he stuck with everyone that helped him even if it meant he was going to die a horrible death
Imo the fact that shaft managed to make the dialogues between characters not boring but actually engaging through different camera shots, changes in art style, the infamous head tilts, the still shots, the changes in perspective is commendable, but to each their own

I agree with you on Shaft/Shinbo making the long dialogue in Monogatari so visually appealing, but I'm gonna have to disagree with them not having much to work with just because it's not an action packed show. I feel scenes like this (sakugabooru.com/post/show/110599) show that Shaft could have done great animation with the conversation scenes if they wanted to. They might just not have wanted to because that may have clashed with the chosen direction of quick cuts, shots of the scenery, etc., which I can respect, but I can't say their animation is great just because they chose not to have animation. If a show was 24 minutes of nothing but a black screen, I wouldn't the show credit if their goal was to be nothing but a black screen.
I also think its perfectly possible for have great animation in a non-action series. Yesterday wo Utatte from this season is a perfect example of that.
For 3gatsu, like you said, the animation in scenes showcasing a characters inner thoughts are great but I just think they're too few and far between for me personally.
I think our views on animation quality might be a little too different to agree with each other but it's been a good convo and I can see your point of view
Lmaooooo what the f*** kakeguri got a whole ass live action show
just googled it and ffs man why
nah bro he could've left emilia/rem/everybody and just go ''fuck this s***, I'm out, I'm gonna be a farmer from now on''

Heβs an idiot, and his death means nothing if he just comes back to life every time
He could just take the easy way out every time
