Chihayafuru (2011) - 10/10

What a beautiful show. I was tearing up during almost every episode: whether it was due to the passion of the show's characters, their perseverance in the face of failure, or the recurring narrative beats of human connection.

The writing is phenomenal and there is absolutely no wasted time in the show: every single scene works to reinforce the three themes. The characters in particular are great and I adore how well they handled the supporting characters: hell, they're so vital to the story I wanna call em main characters.

Taichi is definitely the MVP of the season. Taichi's emotional intelligence drives so many of the show's biggest scenes. I was so f\*\*\*ing happy when late in the season he decided he needed to dedicate himself to kurata and stop dedicating himself to Chihaya. Everyone else had their own dreams and reasons for loving kurata, but Taichi wanting to be good at kurata in order to be close to Chihaya was an unhealthy mindset and I'm happy the show addressed it instead of romanticizing it.

great review, taichi squad claims another chihayafuru is a legit contender for my favorite "sports" anime ive seen, and it gets better every season too imo. hope they dont keep us waiting too long for s4

Fire Force didn’t play today

I'm excited to start season 2 soon. Chihaya's emotional intelligence was pretty low throughout season 1, but toward the end she started realizing how invested the rest of the club members were in seeing her succeed so I'm interested in seeing if she pays them back in some way later in the story.
