Rough Egg episode. Neiru fight in particular was very underwhelming when compared to everything else in the series: camera movement and animation was a lot less ambitious. The character acting animation was still better than average, but it never had any scenes that wowed me like Rika's acting in episode 6, or Ai and Rika's interaction in episode 3. I hope production-wise it doesn't end up like Flip Flappers, where the schedule eventually caught up to them and production started taking a hit toward the end.
I don't think it was as tightly written as the previous episodes either. It tried to advance the central narrative and develop Neiru's character at the same time, but it didn't have the time to do both in a satisfying manner. WEP has been juggling knives with all the different thematic and narrative threads it has introduced, and I'm not entirely sure it can finish its run without dropping one (or more) of them on its foot.
Still a solid 2 points higher than the next best shows of the season for me though, so it's gonna need to be a colossal throw for it to lose its top spot in my eyes.
Just looks like 80s vibe too me
Kimagure Orange Road
Maison Ikkoku
City Hunter
Urusei Yatsura
Touch
are the things that come immediately to me when i see that
Already started watching orange road and absolutely love the way they color s*** but taking a break from from rom com gonna get back into jt

If you are off romcoms at the moment, Patlabor (OVAs and movies) also go in that direction. They still look amazing and crisp, especially the movies.

I know patlabor but tbh not a big mech anime person
like my fav mech anime is full metal panic and that’s more cause it was a comedy
I’m looking for like slice of life/reality based/comedy s*** but tbh most of those end up just being rom coms/romances anyways
just been watching a bunch of random like one season 12/13 episode type series. I like the short one and done type shows. once I see something has like 100+ episodes I get overwhelmed. Not saying I don’t want those type of reccs tho cause I know a lot of the better anime’s have multiple seasons. I just prefer a show I can watch in one sitting.

In Patlabor, mechs are like 2mins max of the whole episode. Some dont even use them at all. Its mostly about the characters, comedy and their daily life.
