Mawaru Penguindrum - 8/10
Kunihiko Ikuhara is a genius.
I think he's one of the most distinct, unique directors in the industry, and his shows are instantly recognizable. Powerful imagery and strong themes, among other things, are hallmarks of his shows, and his unique style has influenced two of my personal favourite shows: Wonder Egg Priority and Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight.
Ikuhara loves ambiguity, which makes his works challenging to watch. Fans of his who put in the effort to understand his work on every level think everything he makes is passionate and meaningful. But there exists the opposite opinion. Many people think everything he makes is pretentious and overrated, and that his fans put more effort into reading his works than he does in writing them.
Personally, Ikuhara's previous stuff that I've watched never really clicked for me (Shoujo Kakumei Utena and Sarazanmai), but I wished they did, because I think directors with strong visions like him is what makes anime worthwhile. As for Mawaru Penguindrum, I'm not even gonna try to break down this show because I don't think I could do it justice in a succinct manner.
But I'm glad I can finally say this earnestly: Kunihiko Ikuhara is a genius.
my lil brother was telling me about this lmao
am i
posting this?
Looks like nonsense but I think I'll watch lol
They butchered the promised neverland. Season 1 was goated and this 2nd seasons flat out skipped s*** and crammed up so much exposition it didn't give you any time to care.
If anyone watched the first season I'd reccomend just going straight to the manga and forgetting season 2

Heard the Manga also trash tho
Heard the Manga also trash tho
yeah p much everybody said the ending of the manga so trash it makes it not worth reading, but now that they f***ed s2 up so badly people are recommending the manga over the anime
Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu really ain't pull any punches for the finale
Thoroughly enjoyed the season. I see why people hyped it up as the father of all Isekai. It's really doing everything right.
doing everything right huh?
@basedspirit yo I finaly finished s1 of slime. It was dope. I like it's world building but rimuru was a bit too powerful although kuro looks like a total chad himself too plus all the side characters were cool asf excluding charybdis....still wondering about leon and the kids plus the clowns ngl it was an interesting watch

hell yeahhh, glad you enjoyed it
ngl s2 has been a lot more emotional and eventful than s1 while retaining the aspects that make it special, def a small step forward for the show. one to keep your eye on for sure, no telling how good it could be another season from now

you put me back on it
I have not-too-high and not-too-low expectations for season 2.
I didnt jump on it right away cause knowing me I'd end up reading it and go down the fandom wormhole lol

shoutout to you for actually taking the rec lmao
i feel like those are the perfect expectations to have lol that’s about what mine were when i started the series, and i’ve been pleasantly surprised for the most part.
i just finished Akame Ga Kill! and i’m lowkey wondering why some people like that s*** so much
it is a well made/pretty decently animated show, and it’s even enjoyable enough for a while, but it gets so melodramatic and corny about halfway in it really kills any momentum the ending should’ve had.

the ending is the most edgy stuff I've seen in anime
the premise and the whole assassin organizations in a corrupt govt is a cool concept but executed like that is just a horrible attempt like trying to lose weight by eating burgers and drinking diet coke

how that s*** got a 7.5 on MAL
mal is a terrible database score wise
look at gintama (no diss) ...all of its seasons are in the top 20
and as far as manga go the levi spin off with only 8 chapters is in the top 100 or some like that...again, no diss but c'mon
