Is it just me who sees these posts and it just screams hubris? Or is this just part of social media now that everyone needs to type an essay about their life story to getting a job or getting into a degree program? lmfao

It’s just never made any sense to me even dating back to when people would do it on IG/Facebook. It’s like people just took that and found a new social media but in their work life. I really don’t get it but to each their own

Like people announcing this s*** like they signed an athletic scholarship to a D1

“Im proud to announce I’ll be graduating sigma c***beta alpha laude” “I’m proud to announce I have become more of a slave to the corporate world! Woohoo” idk man lmao

a lot of my coworkers/friends from university do this and it's literally just because it looks good to employers/HR types

Not anymore tbh. Linkedin is just like ziprecruiter and s*** now. Its essentially all ghost job requisitions made to collect data. There are specific sites for different fields now. I landed my current gig without even reactivating linked in and never plan to use it again tbh. Waste of time and energy. Nobody looking at that s*** but bots

Yeah it's just another social media platform now.

I'm not keeping with people's profile so it is cool to see someone you actually know moving up in life and gets new role that I wouldn't otherwise know that they did if they hadn't done that announcement. Or if you haven't seen someone for awhile at work and they got a new job and you didn't know until you saw the announcement

But everything else is stupid and I always roll my eyes when I see it

The concept of browsing LinkedIn is crazy enough to me. If you log on and set your status to #opentowork you will get flooded with recruiters to the point that you have to make a template so you can copy/paste your response. I found no reason to use that site besides toggling that status on/off

they're not poring over every word but they definitely like to see a filled out profile with posts and pictures etc

it's the same reason why some of them do those MBTI tests as well, it's more about displaying certain personality traits

LinkedIn seemed like such a good concept at the beginning but it’s been usurped by farming for karma. I’m pretty sure I saw they have like reels now too? Just seems silly. I still think it’s good to have one just in case but I feel like once you’ve been in your industry for a respectable amount of time you can just coast off your resume when applying for jobs

  • LinkedIn, like all social media, has its rules and norms which seem confusing to outsiders

idk. my current job got my resume and called me for an interview in 10 minutes lmfao. Didn’t matter what I filled out on my LinkedIn or posted on my page, my hiring manager said she just liked my resume and the fact I was a recent grad

hiring managers should be prosecuted fr i recently applied to 14 different places and the ONLY one that invited me to an interview is literally the best most qualified company of all that i applied to. so its nothing wrong with my resume just literally one person out of fourteen actually doing their job lmao

i got autorejected from one spot twice and it turned out they kept reposting the same position and i applied twice and they just couldnt bother taking a look even another time. crazy s***!!

  • Aug 4, 2025

My cuz has lowkey become a small influencer on there, it's highkey just a game you have to play and although it's cringe it opens up doors and opportunities (my bro also got last 2 jobs from just posting)

Anyone who cares about their career should play the game.

i was told a lot of it is AI now with a lot of top candidates not even being consisted and auto rejections are happening unfairly and a rampant pace because the system is determining who to reject and it could be at the last step of the interview process for something totally arbitrary lol

Sorry you had to deal with that bro…job fairs seem to be the place to go nowadays to secure at least a foot in the door towards something. I was able to get 4 interviews and eventual job offers at the last job fair i attended…mind you it took 8 hours across 2 days of tiring talking and listening to multiple companies and leaving hella resumes, but it’s worth a shot for anyone at this point

It's literally what big companies have been doing for decades, this economy just means there is less roles available not none, so they still recruit, there's even plenty of stories of them making fake jobs just to gather people's details for when they have the funds to hire again.

That's such an uninformed blanket statement and people are still needed for AI.

But anyway back to the point. The LinkedIn BS works, no matter if you think it's weird or cringe or whatever, and recruiters, companies, marketers etc. use it daily.

It's also hella pretentious to act like someone shouldn't be excited about their new job or announce it on a career focused social media. Some people like what they do or like that they are going up the corporate ladder.

It’s not an uniformed blanket statement actually

it’s a direct quote from my friend who is a manager who tried to get one of our other friends a job and at a point it was out of her hands and left to the AI system which has to sort through 200+ applicants that managers don’t have time to do today because the company has figured out how to save $50k-$200k annually based on company size and amount of hiring managers needed, with this new system due to advancements in business and the need for more efficiency

like we’re literally being trained on an AI system that will move us away from a system we have been using at my company for 30 years lol. the change has affected everything bro, it’s why people are sitting with Master/Docotorates and all the requirements for a job and STILL getting rejected.

AI has f***ed up the job market, you’ll see
