i’m a SOTT guy and love his work after the imperial period, i find some of his most interesting stuff on some of those 90s-00’s records

but purple rain is legit man, it’s a great front to back, wildly creative and single-handedly defined the sound of the era. he was able to capture, no, DEFINE the sound of rock, rnb, and pop in the 80s…

idk a single record that has done all of this with the chart presence purple rain has. i think what that album means to the 80s alone makes it a “great” album. i really don’t think there’s a greater pop album in american music history… the brit’s have the rest of them.

About as personal as Travis can get, Which is still pretty surface level

it’s very simple pop song compared to rest of CO let alone rest of his discography. he’s so confident and has a control over song structure that’s well beyond his years by the time we hit blond

in retrospect, thinking about u is legit one of his weaker songs but it’s iconic, has a great hook, and the lyrics make it go from a generic 4 chord pop song to something that will more than likely stand the test of his time. don’t get me started on the bridge

he’s our great american lyricist and even his worst songs sonically have some value in his lyrics
