a topic I’ve been thinking about for a while now, it’s become especially more evident post covid and with older generations getting more comfortable to technology.

if you had to observe your parents when you’re with them, are their phones away and interested in the end of their life in front of them, or are they mainly reverting to their devices, especially when no is talking to them?

  • Nah my mom doesn’t even have a smartphone and my dad used to joke about wishing he was Amish

the worst was during the covid era but recently its been much better. my dad literally has nothing going on in his phone lmao he just opens it when everybody else does which is kinda sad, ive been trying to not look at my phone when im with family because of that

funniest story that i told on here before is that the old school attention span is f***ing crazy. we were watching JFK (1991) and my mom is on the phone like most of the time paying attention maybe half the time the movie is on. and that s*** is like three and a half hours of constant talking and nothing else going on. meanwhile my dad sat thru the entire thing GLUED to tv not missing a single thing and never looking away, except one smoke break. its absolutely crazy seeing that in real time because even i have a hard time watching jfk all the way thru even though its one of my favorite movies

My grandma is addicted to AI slop romance stories on YouTube. Pretty sure it is accelerating her cognitive decline. I don't know how to stop it and nobody else in the family seems to think it's a serious problem.

Boomers have spent their whole lives gleefully embracing slop. They are the generation of mass produced plastic s***, game shows, TV dinners, comic books, hair spray, hydrogenated vegetable oils, advertising jingles, polyester suits, and particleboard furniture. This is just the next step for them.

    Yeah it’s sad

My mom was doing really good up until like 2 or 3 years ago and she randomly got one shotted by tiktok and YouTube. There was a time where I was like yeah life is rough for her but at least she’s not addicted to her phone, then it just happened lmao

Her algorithms are all just “Donald trump is evil and trying to kill you”

    Which is true but damn

I been tryna hang out with her outdoors more often to curb the effects. Ima get her right. I gotta get myself right first though

My mom and dad both watch reels or Youtube shorts. My mom watches pretty normal stuff usually about health and food. But I've seen my dad watch a lot of AI slop content. Those videos don't even have any type of sense or topic to them
