at this point id rather be a fan of a prolific artists with many duds alongside many classics.
artists with only like 3 classics throughout their entire career are increasingly more annoying the more time goes on.
Its frustrating both ways but its easier to not listen to mid and continue to be engaged with the artist.
then it is to wait for years for an hour of music from your favorite artist and they become a memory

If my favorite artist gives me an hour of incredible material I am happy with that forever. I don’t need to be gratified extremely often especially as you said if it’s not that good and just for the sake of releasing.

yea i can see this. critically panned albums usually cultivate some cultlike fanbase.
but sometimes i dont got time to go thru all their less acclaime work. like damn i've barely gotten thru most of janet's or prince's classics. now i gotta sift thru their other stuff god damn
what an effort lol

I used to be satisfied with that. But after frank, d angelo, jai paul, radiohead. Many more too. Its frustrating as a nerd of music in this new era.
I wish they had the mentality of prince, madlib, aphex twin etc. Multiple aliases, wrote/produced for others on a weekly basis, Dropped solo works monthly, disregarding public ,fan, s*** even their own perception. And just dropped for arts sake.
thats confidence to me, consistent passion thats truly displayed over a prolonged period of time.
In our AI age, it seems almost fabricated to chisel a stone like how we have been up until this point. Unfortunately, if something is too clean or polished, too finished, im immediately thinking u are using AI. Sucks but it is what it is
Even still i feel like artist sense that and then completely go the opposite way and use that excuse to drop slop 24/7. Its a difficult balance

Shiet the big discogs are a big reason why im so obsessed with music lol.
Its what i do on my free time, to be fair. Im almost done with princes 90s work. Working thru chief keef.
I love seeing the progress and ebbs and flows of an artist. And its honestly really impressive. It brings back the mystique of an artist that is missed these days.
Like how did J dilla have all that time to make so many beats. How did afx have those aliases making completely different sub genres of electronic music all while changing its landscape with his main work.
Even ppl like viper. Imo its just hella cool to explore an artists discog if its massive. Its like going into someones world that they painstakingly constructed
Bob Dylan - I see his discog as eras where you have the folk/protest stuff, dylan goes electric, his venture into country with a new voice, back to the nasally voice, blood on the tracks/desire/street legal run, christian era, a down period in the 80s followed by a comeback with oh mercy, and a solid late career discography since

for sure
i totally get what you mean
just a major commitment but i do have my discog deep dive moments that i appreciate
so much music
the days before artists would drop bullshit thru deluxe versions nowadays
it is crazy that artists used to explore so many genres.
have u seen madonna's discog? she's done it all basically lmao

I’d never be frustrated in any era if an artist made voodoo and waited 15 years. I can listen to that forever
But I see your perspective. This era is ass
cool to me is spitta or ab soul
Yall naming monsters with S tier discogs.
Spitta great example
