I’m still just a quarter of the way through The Well of Ascension, idk about the rest of the Cosmere novels, but the Mistborn series would be better adapted as an animated series rather than live action. Needs like a Castlevania or DOTA animation style. Live action not gonna do this justice. If they go live action I don’t see them securing the necessary budget given the length of these novels. It’ll look like a CW tier show for sure.
A castlevania style anime would be so good
Just finished The Well of Ascension, gonna dive straight into The Hero of Ages.
Book 2 was real good. Step up from the first book. Vin & Elend's development has gone well. Man I can't even lie, while reading through the battle of Luthadel, and then Clubs, and Dox's death, along with Sazed finding Tindwyl body, reading through his grief. Breeze having a mental break down I got a little emotional. Then again when Vin came back to the city to save them.
Then that twist at the end, predictable but well executed tbh. There were a lot of twist and turns in the story. Like the spy, I genuinely thought it would've been Dox but turned out I was wrong. But yea, already started on book 3.
Should I read the rest of the Mistborn books or can I check out the Stormlight Archive books after The Hero of Ages?

Dam you read fast as f***. I don't understand how some ppl believe book 2 is the weakest out of the 3, book 2 is easily my favorite.
The first book of the second era of mistborn is lower stakes and some ppl find it quite jarrin reading it right after HOA. Don't get me wrong era 2 books are good too but is different. It's more characters driven and less serious
If the change of pace doesn't bother you I'd say read the first 3 books of era 2 and after that read Mistborn secret history that one is a must
They are short too so you'll finish them fast. Stormlight archive books are 1000+ pages each.
At the end of the day you can read them in whichever order you want that's just how I did it.

You gonna read the next mistborn era?

Nah I ended up purchasing Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection, so I could read The Eleventh Metal. After I finished that I’ve started on Elantris. I’m following this guide:

Not gonna read everything, like I’ll probably skip the graphic novels, probably keep ‘em for the very end.
About a quarter of the way through Elantris. Yea you can tell this was the authors first novel, or at least one of his first. His writing style isn’t as refined as it was in Mistborn. His writing lacks subtly. Everything is explained to an almost pedantic degree. Foreshadowing from what I can tell don’t seem to be a thing in this story so far. The book has been serviceable so far. Im not in love with it tbh, main motivator is to get through it for potential lore reasons.
I finished Mistborn today. I'm kind of conflicted, because I still did not really vibe with Sanderson's writing style, but man that pay off in acts 4 and 5 was really good. Sanderson can write great action scenes too.
I really grew to love most every side character (especially Sazed, he was great and I'm really intrigued to learn more about his background and culture), and even warmed up to Kelsier as the book went on. I'm still struggling with Vin though. I thought she was a little TOO emo at times, but I suppose it's fair for her to be given her background, and I thought her character development was handled well. I did think she got a kind of random powerspike in act five though? Maybe it makes sense after act 4's events, but I didn't feel like she was strong enough then to merit what she was able to do in act five.
I did really like the last part of the book, and I'm interested to see where the series goes. But I think I might put it on pause and work through a few other books in my library before I buy the rest of the trilogy

Honestly I'd recommend you just dive straight into the sequels while it's all fresh in your head. The books get better with each sequel imo.
So finished Elantris and The Hope of Elantris yesterday, and just finished The Emperor's Soul about 30 minutes ago. According to the guide I posted above, I'm ready for the Stormlight Archive books, The Way of Kings, but I think I will read Warbreaker first to get it out the way 1, and 2nd so I can just read the first 2 Stormilght books back to back without pause.
My thoughts on Elantris, it is a decent story. It's extremely generic by today's standards, so a lot of the writing and characterization is straight up cringe. Like Vin is a vast improvement on Sanderon's ability to write a good competent female protagonist, when measured against Sarene, there are still some issues in how Vin was written though. I will say Shai from The Emperor's Soul might be my favorite of the 3 so far. My edible kicking in so my thoughts kinda jumbled so bare with me. But the story of Elantris was pretty standard. I really don't have much to say on it. My main purpose for pushing through the book was to indulge myself in the full Cosmere universe. There were a few chapters that were real page turners, but I wasn't really getting through the book for that. Gyorn Hrathren was pretty cool at the end, although the stupid way he apparently fell in love with Sarene was ridiculous, and so corny.
The magic system was ok. We honestly didn't really get to get much of it really, because of the state of the world. Even at the end we didn't really see it's full potential.
The Emperor's Soul was really good actually. Starts off a lil slow, again I was initially reading through it as a lore dump, didn't care for the actual story. But it really pulled me in, and got me invested in the magic system, and the story. Shai was an excellent character. The lore behind a forger was so interesting and thought provoking imo. I'd definitely recommend yall to check it out if you haven't. It's a short read, and I think it's honestly a better introduction to Brandon Sanderson's work than Elantris or even Mistborn since it isn't as big a commitment.

What did the sequel improve on from the first book in your opinion?

Further development of Vin, Elend, and the crew. A lot more foreshadowing that pays off. More world building too, the stakes get much bigger. Assuming you get to the 3rd book, there is sorta a philosophical question Sanderon is pondering the entire series. Basically whether the ends justify the means.
Just finished way of kings…. I’m shook. The last 300 pages could be the best stretch of anything I’ve ever read.

Words of Radiance is even better.

Maaaaaaaan I’m so excited to start it but also my semester just started so my free time for recreational reading is about to plummet.
So I’ve finished reading Warbreaker. The guide says to read it after The way of Kings, but I want to binge the first 2 stormlight novels back to back without a breather, especially if I end up liking it a lot. It was decent. I like the magic system in it. I don’t think the action scenes involving the magic were as good as other works I’ve read from Sanderson so far tbh. I think so far as magic systems goes I’d rank it like Emperor’s Soul > Mistborn (Era 1) > Warbreaker > Elantris. They’re all pretty cool but yea.
Lightsong was an annoying insufferable character, but I sorta warmed up to him by the end. Vivenna and all the religious subtext in the novel reminded me of some of my super religious aunts n how judgmental they are. Honestly there really was no standout character for me lol. They were all serviceable but I didn’t really latch onto any of them. The ending of the book was sorta abrupt though. Like he ran out of steam, and wanted to just wrap it up. It was very anti climatic imo. The payoff just wasn’t there for me.
Anyways once I finished instead of starting The Way of Kings, I decided to read Mistborn: A Secret History. My guide says to read it towards the end of era 2 books but don’t know why. Even the preface says it’s only minor spoilers for era 2, but major spoilers for era 1. I wish I read it directly after Hero of Ages tbh. The trilogy still relatively fresh in my head, but imo I feel that after HoA is the best time to read A Secret History. S*** had me almost tearing up reliving the events of some of the crew
.
Might finally start The Way of Kings tonight… but more than likely either tomorrow or Friday morning. Give myself a lil break cause I been binging all these books back to back to back lol.
