Apparently the Trump administration gave the okay for banks to decide to withhold the money from certain people in order for it to be funneled into paying the intended receiver’s debts.
Some people will literally never see the money that they need to survive even though it was headed their way.

If you wanna feel that way, sure, but as the legislation stands, you don't have to pay this back

Eh I mean on one hand I get it that’s f***ed up that it isn’t going directly into their hands but then again if you’re actively ignoring outstanding personal debts you’re just digging yourself into a deeper and deeper hole.
People gotta realize banks and businesses are not your friends and any service that utilizes credit should only be used for necessities like car or home not Victoria secret or Best Buy credit card.

Sometimes it ain’t that black and white
Sometimes it ain’t that black and white
I agree man the point I’m trying to make is that as consumers we can’t give lenders the benefit of the doubt we have to be cynical about our financial livelihood
You can’t just agree to s*** and tell yourself “eh I’ll figure it out” later
I say this as a 23 year old with a 720 credit score that grew up with immigrant parents so I’ve pretty much had to build my credit from 0 with no help since I was 18. I didn’t get to that 720 at 23 by allowing myself to be consumed by debt. If I owed something I immediately started busting ass to pay it off sometimes even carrying 3 jobs. My first auto loan was at 10% and I had to pay that s*** for 3 years until my credit was good enough to refinance.
It’s kind of the same thing with student debt. Why we as consumers allow ourselves to be sold this dream life of going to college taking out loans and somehow magically being able to afford it after we’ve graduated is beyond me. Even as you’re hearing all of these testimonials from people saying how f***ed up the lending system works and how many can’t find jobs in the field they studied. At what point do we realize this is the system and it’s not going away anytime soon so it’s up to us to make better decisions and not be reliant on sympathy or forgiveness. (Student debt forgiveness will never happen because newsflash that $25k/year tuition is the admission ticket to temporarily escaping your hometown or your Situation “a new chapter” or whatever and yeah you may be chilling for 4/5 years but that will later cost you the next 30 years of your life)
I’m not saying I got it figured out by any means but I’m just saying we have to be smart consumers especially knowing how corrupted every facet of America is
