seeing the outrage over auntie diaries opened my eyes and really exemplified to me how people listening to music has completely changed

niggas dont care about concepts and themes and all that other s*** anymore, it's just "vibes" and "aesthetic" - to see the d***riding for DAMN's "listen to it backwards" concept to the mr morale derision is mind boggling

    Sounds pretty problematic to me.

Do you think SNL just employs whoever? He had to be making connections with industry heads prior to get a shot. And these days, you don’t do that if you’re not virtue signaling hard

Pete met Amy Schumer through NY stand up scene. She put him in Trainwreck, Bill Hader saw him and set him up with an audition for Lorne at SNL

It’s very ‘knowing the right people’ and small-circle networking but idk if its any different from decades of Hollywood networking

Exactly but you don’t get these connections if you don’t play ball whether that’s in having a inoffensive comedic style or virtue signaling to the left in your stand ups or just as a person. Shane Gillis didn’t play ball after he got the SNL gig and he lost all his connections, despite being funnier than all of em.

    He wasn’t normalizing.

Literally the entire point was how f***ed up it was that something like that was entirely normalized in his circles.

The “f” word, especially in its heyday, was so normalized that it transcended simply being a derogatory term for gays and essentially became synonymous with “weak”.

You also cannot rob art of its context and intent, those are the KEY points of artistic a***ysis.

True regarding shane. Looking back I can’t even picture him being considered for that show let alone getting it

His career has and will continue to blow up though and being kicked off ultimately was way better for him

Is that not how new words and terminology work? Imagine writing “lmao” in a letter to someone in 1994.

acronyms like “tbh” and “lmao” were common back then. I was reading a somethingawful thread from 2003 and it’s scary how similar they are to us

I see virtue signaling as playing one side because that is seen as “authentic” when you’re not just parroting mainstream media points to be seen as buddy buddy with industry heads, similar to Pete Davidson who did just that and is now buddies with Hollywood execs and making movies.

Schulz looks to make uncomfortable jokes which literally cause big companies to not want to work with him. He’s taking huge risks career wise to start things on his own terms so he can tell the jokes he wants to tell.

I mean look who Schulz has his pod now. I feel like he's going in that direction.

My only gripe w/ Schulz is that he comes from a VERY privileged upbringing, rode the curtails of Charlamagne, and now aligns himself with reddit/rogan audience.
