BabaláwoCardi from 4-5 years ago did not have the same amount of notoriety, or fame that she has amassed in the last 2 years. If you followed her even before she got on HNHH n she was just a IG personality/stripper she has always spoken about s*** that is going on in the hood/community.
I been following her career before she started rapping back in 2013-2014 what was stopping her from speaking on social politics back then with 1 million followers and viral videos.

That’s fair and they’re right tbh. The erasure of darkskinned black people (especially women) is real. I still am biologically half black and have biological black family. Cardi can’t say the same. If Cardi B is black than so is Dani Leigh
It’s not necessarily a skin color thing. Black comes in many shades. My og for instance, is lighter skin than Cardi is, but she’s born from 2 Nigerian parents.
Some pics Cardi shared showed she has immediate family members such as her mother’s brother etc, that phenotypically and skin color wise are indistinguishable from a “regular” black American.
