Born in Toronto to Ethiopian immigrants, Chxrry22 (pronounced Cherry) became interested in music at a young age and began posting videos of herself singing online. By 2017, several videos had gone viral and, after moving to Atlanta, she caught the attention of label executives who signed her to the Weeknd's XO Records.
