its interesting how dif sections of the current revivalist movment take influence aswell imo

xaviersobased (Spacehostpurpp, Lil B, Duwap Kaine, Hi-C, Chief keef, Slayworld, Surf gang and bladee)
Smokedope 2016 (bladee, yung lean, lil peep, black kray, lil tracy)
Mink (babyfather, A$AP Rocky, imogen heap, xav, drake, and sounds a lot like Lofty305 at times yet doesnt seem to be aware of him)

uncomfy from this ep one of my fav songs from last year

  • not rap but feel like this is a similar vibe

i get a lot would but they arent cloud rap is the thing, like yes they are one of the first guy to use the idea of like rap being cloudy i guess and they did have ambient elements to their music but its completely unrelated to the actual genre id say. same reason i didnt mention viper. Clouddead made like very different music and i just wouldnt count them in the lineage.

I agree they're not rly part of the whole scene but it is wild that they basically had all the elements there already 5 years before anyone else, it was just still on boom bap lol

    sd2016 solo carrying tbh

  • don't think I've seen it formulated as a revival b4 but it's def true, I think both the ambient and edm influences in cloud rap just aged rly well and resonate even harder w today's rap audience.

A lot of artists that were in a diff lane are taking heavy influence from cloud rap rn, even in the Earl, MIKE, Niontay crowd. Surf Gang def one of the important crews popularizing the sound imo, also bringing up Babyxsosa... and CLIP needs a mention.

    great thread op.

in february 2020 someone on reddit put me on to Black Kray, Bones, SGP, and Bladee. I had moved out of my parents' so i could smoke weed regularly for the first time. Then covid hit. I lived by myself and for a few months i had no social contact.

i would get stoned and watch artsy movies or anime, and when I wasn't watching something I'd be listening to Chris Travis, Bladee, Bones, Lil Peep, Tracy, Icytwat, da$H, robb bank$, Father, Yung Lean, you name it.

i've listened to rap since I was a freshman in high school, but that's the first time i felt like something was really mine. like the rapper had a style and aesthetic that inspired me.

lol i watched Taxi Driver the same week I heard the chris travis song that sampled the song in it.

i still listen to it sometimes, but it feels very much "of that time." there's so much more i haven't heard, i wanna finish bladee's discog and black kray and the rest of Goth money and Robb Bank$ and Awful Records, and maybe one day i will. i'm too old for the revival i think tho lol
