Is it an unpopular opinion to say that Blackstar is actually his best work ever?

I know he's made a lot of stuff that was groovy as f*** and easier on the ears but everytime i sit down and listen to the whole of Blackstar it's just such a powerful experience time and time again. And it's one of the most beautiful artistic statements ever made imo

But my most listened to Bowie album is probably Station To Station

not the most popular take but it’s completely reasonable. the session musicians for that alb brought their A game and it’s a powerful evocative album

The title track is still bonkers to me every time, like i'm witnessing some strange ritual happen in front of me. It's so visually stimulating

It's definitely not touching Station which planets aligned for in a Kubrickian fashion to conjure perfection from an artist in his prime but it's as good as it could have been.

Very f***in few albums where every song is 11/10 but Station is one and impossible to top.

It’s top 5 for me and I wouldn’t be mad at someone saying it’s their fav but station & low are too powerful for me to say it’s his full stop best

Clears like 15-20 years of work from him tho

They’re my top 2 although admittedly its been a while since ive listened to some of his other hitters like Low or Outside. But i def rate Blackstar and Station to Station over Ziggy and Hunky Dory that i also both adore don’t get me wrong

The man had too many smackers in his catalog. Goat s***

  • Blackstar
    Diamond Dogs
    Low

    Top 3

  • @Elric im over my gaming era and now fully back in the music era i still havent watched a single film since we last talked on here ngl i got me a new vinyl player and rediscovered a 2nd youth in my love of rock music so i dusted off my Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Talking Heads LPs etc etc etc

It all started with my GF gifting me an In Rainbows LP sometime ago

Which i didnt have for some reason even tho its one of my most fav albums ever that means loads to me

70s Bowie truly was a man from another planet that fell to earth

Didn't the song TVC15 came to be because Bowie and Iggy Pop were doing blow and Iggy Pop thought the TV was eating his GF or some s***?

    NOT Including Blackstar,

Does Bowie have any genuinely good albums after Lets Dance

Everytime ive gone thru albums in that window of time nothing catches my ear like the other albums

The Next Day, Heathen, Earthling is interesting mileage may vary, outside is interesting but not really anything similar to his pre let’s dance stuff if that’s your bar

Honestly nothing I named will scratch that itch for you except TND

he really is in a rare class
'Is there anything after his 14th album that...'

    Insane
How many artists can that sentence even apply to

I think black star is middle tier Bowie, not as good as the 70’s stuff. Ziggy stardust might be overrated but might also be a perfect album. Station to station is great! The next day also got some bangers like Valentine’s Day. I love Bowie and when the Bowie thread gets bumped! Haha. Pun intended

now that im thnking about it, i dont think bowie has any overrated albums. They all seem pretty well rated imo. If anything diamond dogs is severely UNDERRATED

I think it’s so good that people gloss over the fact that it’s a perfect album. I think it’s in the same category of MBDTF. Everybody knows it’s great, but once you sit down and listen to it and do comparisons to other albums, it absolutely smokes them out of the water. My new stance is Ziggy Stardust is Underrated and perfect!

Maybe I meant to say overplayed

    Diamond dogs is great aswell.
I’m guessing you don’t put it over Ziggy?

Aladdin Sane might be the closest imo
