Yeah me too... I hope somebody makes a video about it or something very soon
Finished it last night, and I can honestly say that it was a beautiful experience like no other.
I was very close in dropping it early in Chaoter 2, but I’m so glad I held on to see it through because it was worth it. It opened my eyes to what makes a game “entertaining”. Yes there’s alot of walking, but the land and the scenery are so immersive it makes you feel like you are there struggling along this terrain, delivering packages to people who have these stories to tell. I can’t for the life of me “recommend” this game though because it’s just that hard of a sell to say “Yeah, early on sucks but it gets better!” When getting better just means the traversal is going to be the same but the story is ramping up.
I don’t think Death Stranding is a game I could really go back through again. The moments in the mountains and even the trip back to Lake Knot City will forever stick with me though as they were some of the most intense and memorable gaming moments in my life. I feel like with its strange, but endearing characters is something only Kojima could pull off. I’m happy to see that the second game is getting much more praise and hype than the first, and has me even more excited I was to play On the Beach.
You had a great time
Can't recommend it
So is director's cut the definitive edition or something?
Director's Cut is basically just the same game with some added features/abilities (as well as some easter egg story beats that vaguely connect to DS2, but aren't essential).
I'd say there's zero harm in playing either version, but I think the DC has more to do gameplay/sandbox wise so you might as well go with that one.

It's on sale so I'm considering
I do like me a cutscene-riddled walking simulator

PULL THE TRIGGER.
It's one of the most unique and impactful games I've ever played.

I literally can’t recommend it lol. Kojima’s weird characters and interesting premise was literally hanging on by a single thread for me in the first chapters of Death Stranding. I wanted to be invested and hang on to this world, story, and cast, but the gameplay was struggling to keep me engaged. I can’t recommend this game to someone knowing that the gameplay (early on) IS boring, and Kojima’s plot can’t save it, because there’s not alot to chew on.
Even when you make it past the roughest part of the game, the gameplay remains the same, now with easier methods of travel and things to help you on the journey to make the game “better”. Some things should’ve been there from the beginning in my opinion, but also at the same time, it felt fulfilling enough to get through deliveries with thinking of traversal solutions on the spot, rather than planning it out.
I loved Death Stranding, but it’s one of those games where even “trying it” is a commitment because there game doesn’t hit its stride till many, MANY hours in. Still haven’t played 2 yet (been focusing on a Resident Evil marathon before RE9), but I’m excited to see how much that game improves the pacing that DS1 struggled so hard with.

Game is super gangsta. Extremely immersive once you let all the elements wash over you, very unique feeling game
Got gifted a free copy of DS2 deluxe edition I think? Never played DS1 however. Am I gonna be totally lost if I start DS2 or is it enjoyable enough as a standalone game?

you should play 1 first
I'm still busy with episode 2, just under 4 hours in. Idk who was calling this slow and boring early on but I honestly can't relate
This is unlike anything I've ever played. Seeing someone else's ladder already placed in a pathway that could've been treacherous without it brings a feeling that I can't quite describe yet. It's like a multiplayer-adjacent hub without the flurry of n-words and f-slurs. Digging this, a lot, and I can't wait to get to the parts that are considered the game hitting its stride or whatever.
The traversal clicked with me because it forces you to stay engaged by scanning terrain and balancing your stuff out. Some might consider this busy work and don't get me wrong: I definitely understand why some folks are mixed on this or consider it outright boring AF. I guess you either fw it or not. Kojima with the US of A pole-shining is par for the course at this point but I'll take it as an allegory for humanity's need to stay connected.
I can't imagine playing this offline. The online component is such an integral part of the experience. Folks who pirate this are like missing half the game automatically.

Playing the 1st? Gave up on episode 2 when I reach the BT

Offline it is fake and simulated like it’s the real thing lol. They have hotspots baked into the game and online it’s rng if your name gets shown. The online in ds1 and 2 is literally “faked” to a degree
Also all the cargo online and offline is fake and procedurally generated

Yeah the first one, I'm on episode 2, hopefully about to wrap up. I gotta get to Port Knot city and this rocky path is like BT territory. Is there like a final boss or something? I'm still trying to figure out how to hit these BTs with grenades, so far it ain't doing s*** lol

I always play Online and my name gets shown. Plus there are like bridges and ladders around, some postal boxes with custom music playing

One of the greatest implementation of multiplayer features in any game
he cooked so hard with that and im sure you’ll see even more activity once you get to the sequel

Yeah that’s all faked
i see my friends s*** around all the time .
Yeah. It pulls your friends list and adds their names to random structures
The likes you get are faked too based on an algorithm how useful the item is in the zone it is placed in. You get a minimum likes per hour / day if you place good items
