I also feel like in Abel’s case there was credence to it like he was being pushed primarily through the OVO blog/tumblr which were sort of niche in itself so when his music started to get traction the origins weren’t as obvious as the current internet landscape where it’s basically impossible to have a platform AND be unknown it just doesn’t work like that

I wonder if a reason makes it less corny. If Esdeekid was involved in crime (Drill-adjacent) or he’s protesting the British police state by hiding his face, the music would be affected (becoming gang related or political, respectively). Kind of a double edged sword
And if a reason alone enough I’d ask fans to make up their own reason and now it’s not corny anymore
