Absolutely not
He would be mentioned consistently in the same breath as diddy, epstein, r kelly, and the like
His death did a lot for his image
U guys dont actually believe this
by 1993 Michael wasn't the central figure of pop culture anymore. 13 year olds obsessed over Grunge, Alt, New jack Swing.. there was Mariah, there was Eurodance in Europe. MJ was a God but he wasn't moving the needle like he did during Thriller and Bad.
Yeah because thriller and bad already happened and it's only so high one man can go that doesn't mean he fell out of the zeitgeist
That's like saying Kanye 2016-2020 fell out of the zeitgeist lol obviously it wasn't 04-2011 level but he was still a big deal
Dude would be like 70. Don't understand why current music fans have such a hard time grasping the concept of a prime, legacy act etc...
Mfs still want Kanye and Jay to be putting out prime level content. Now y'all wondering if MJ would've been s***ting out #1s in his senile age era
Because before them it was unheard of for rappers to make impactful music into their late 30's and 40's so there's no reason they can't do it till old age. They already broke the precedent where there's no real barrier on what they can or can't do
Drake for better or worse could rap until he's 80-90+ and I hope he does even if I don't like the music eventually
I mean, if the new/updated tracks on XSCAPE were released (Chicago, Place With No Name, Loving You, Slave To The Rhythm) I think he couldn’t made some noise.
Chicago was a slapper. Had it on repeat when it first dropped
PWNN is vintage MJ
Loving You is a beautiful song.
Don't people get wiser and smarter with age? Why do we assume everything we make in our 20s and 30s is better than what we're able to do with more wisdom and experience in our 50s or 60s?
Because in exchange for wisdom most if not all lose energy, charisma, fresh ideas and childlike wonder
MJ was pretty f***ing retired by the time he died, odds are he woulda remained at that status. The industry took a lot out of him and he shoulda retired sooner tbh. Imo shoulda been out by 1995 (for his own health)
Yup. On the top of that the scandals and his surgeries made him a joke. The media hated him and clowned him. He was the butt of every joke when he passed, right before he died EVERYONE was making fun of him regularly. He wouldve prob been Britney spears level where he's only in the news for bad things like his appearance or his (assumed) new allegations that would resurface. Him dying was the best thing to happen to his legacy.
Goofy thread mj was already cooked in early 2000s when invincible came out
Yup that album was panned so hard by critics he basically quit recording music. Closest thing he did was the thriller 25 remixes and some alleged demos from This is it.
Op makes threads for people to argue then never comments in them again
I'm crying i went thru all his threads every single of them is ragebait
Hate talking about him but im sure he wudve put something out to similar acclaim as bowie's blackstar by now
opening this thread only to get whiplashed by michael jackson ai

This facts he was a punchline back then you couldn’t watch a parody movie or cartoon without a Michael Jackson spoof of some sort from the scary movies to South Park to vh1 illustrated to Eminem to any comedian standup at the time
He was the go to low hanging fruit and that only changed after he passed

I remember when he died there was a popular joke on facebook that people put as their status it was something like "Michael Jackson will be cremated and melted into plastic toy figures so kids can play with him for a change"
Look at how many people didn't care about him dying after hearing the news (granted mj death hoaxes were frequently reported)
i'd like to imagine he would have been on random access memories
He would have had so many hard lil side missions
I was only 10 years old when he died so I didn’t really see and understand the whole “media slander” he went through in the early 2000’s. I had been hearing and enjoying his music ever since I was really young but that’s pretty much it.
Whoever was old enough to witness and actually understand that era of MJ from 2000-2009, what was it like? I’m really curious about what people thought of him at the time, especially during the 2005 trial, his isolation in the Middle East and leading up to This Is It.

It was pretty brutal. That mugshot was everywhere and he was basically just a meme for a while.
