I just think we’re past the point where we can afford that much nuance, I think artists should be more clear in their messaging. It’s not about my literacy of it, I’m just tired of even the artists that lean positive making trauma music. To me it feels like there is a requirement there and that’s what worries me, not Doechii giving genuine perspectives on addiction. I feel like there’s bigger games being played

“That much nuance” and it’s a f***ing rapper talking about HER addiction dawg this is BARE MINIMUM expected of you to be able to give nuance on it’s not even nuance it’s literally jus the content of the song. She can talk about her trauma all she likes lol and this is a completely seperate point from what u originally made. The next line is “and just when it couldn’t get worse” and “my self worth is at an all time low” since when have we turned into Christian grandmas clutching our purses at “oh the horror! D****!”

I hate the Christian grandma reference. That’s exactly the enemy people use to dismiss any and all criticism of media.

Because of Christian grandmas, we all get to pretend that what artists say in their work doesn’t matter, especially the ones who are promoted at the highest level and have a platform.

Stop this purity culture nonsense u have a literal child rapist in the Oval Office I think someone not censoring themselves about THEIR addiction struggles on a song is completely fine get over yourself artists and reality won’t censor themselves to cater to your fragile ears addiction is a real thing erasing portrayals of it doesn’t erase its existence and what causes it

it’s not a conspiracy art-making is a collective and social process whatever doechii is rapping about is just her reflections as a black women in America and as an artist producing art under capitalist relations. That doesn’t necessarily preclude it’ll be “good” or “bad”

Anxiety isn't a terrible song. The fake hate that it's one of worst songs of all time is just silly and sheep mentality.

It's not even a bad song, at worst it's an average song.

I think it’s deeper than that. I think sometimes we are too quick to assume that what we receive from an artist as large as this is actually genuine expression, and not something calculated in a different way. Maybe I’m wrong but if you are right, then I think we’re at a point where the echo chamber of trauma has run its course. Does all this music about anxiety really help or is it just a different conditioning I’m not sure.

She already had popular songs before Anxiety. People like Anxiety so it got big.

You literally have no idea what you're talking about. And saying you can't come back from that song is total nonsense. Ignorance is not cool, just do better with how you form opinions.

So there’s a conspiracy that TDE before she was famous made her rap a song over a MF doom type beat from YouTube telling the story of the past 5 years of her life, the struggles and addiction that came with it, so she could include a line about I like d**** so that people can take that out of context to endorse d*** use?

This person 2words really articulated there point well but the point made no sense at all. Basically some people will make up anything just so that they convince themselves they are right to hate on someone they know close to nothing about

and please whats with the anti black statement like there isn't other successful black female artist without plant allegations. I'm getting tired of race victimization

That’s not the conversation at all. No one said she’s the only black woman with these allegations. The issue is her detractors have displayed anti-blackness when hating on her music. And there is a larger conversation surrounding Black artists who have elements of “real hip hop” or lyricism or “consciousness” facing pushback by Non black trolls online

No I see your point but I’m saying what’s is that an artist under a major label is still producing a commodity so her artistic expression, like all artists in her position, have to be shaped and molded to be sold so you’re not really describing something specific to doechii but all artists will have pressure (from labels, etc) to mold their original “vision” into something else

I swear i didn’t know what anxiety was until my first high school girlfriend LOL, women go through a lot at home/personally and were the first one really making strides in mental health world for other women and mothers of sons committing since we know women are more inclined to seek therapy than men. it’s not some big conspiracy dawg
