Africans don’t really see themselves as being in allegiance with American black ppl. Granted Tyler is an American national and ig his mother is too, he still seems to identify with his father by not mixing with the social interests of American black ppl.

    Please go outside

Why? He's a good producer. Whole lotta afrobeat, Nigerian disco/afro-boogie, or even highlife records he can pull from

S*** even Frank managed to remix/cover an afro-boogie classic and he did that joint justice

I'm sure Tyler could do the same sampling those records

From someone on Quora recounting meeting Tyler:

“I don't know him on a personal level. But I met him at a pizza place after an Odd Future concert in Philly. He seemed really shy when my friend and I approached him and Syd and complimented the great show. Syd did all the talking and was really animated, but Tyler was kinda stand offish. But he perked up when I mentioned I was Nigerian. His exact words "My deadbeat ni*gerass dad is Nigerian. That's why I'm so f***in weird lookin." “

He’s come a long way for sure with embracing his Nigerian roots, but then again it’s harder cause the person who gave him those roots was never around to really put him on.

He too busy chasing after white men.

  • Apr 24, 2022
    rather late

I just found out his dad is Igbo
Curious to know why he doesnt talk about this more
I also dont really follow him so maybe he does and im ignorant
    Interested in it tho

    He’s aware

There’s a video of him getting Nigerian food in LA with a nigerian artist, i forgot who tho

He also had the Nigerian artist cruel santino perform at flognaw a while back and the same guy directed the video of “u say” with him and goldlink

Also on igor he sampled some Nigerian 70s disco music and in interviews has talked about how dope that scene was.

He also talked about how virgil using his ghanain last name made him proud of using his Nigerian last name

So yea he’s acknowledged it as much as he could, again it’s not like his Nigerian father was in his life

he doesn't know his dad and doesn't want to. He just didn't grow up in Nigerian culture, his mother is from California. I think he mentioned it on a track once bc his facial hair didn't grow in good. I'm Nigerian and I thought it was cool when I found out about Tyler but it's just not much of a factor in his life.

  • Apr 24, 2022

He's started mentioning it more and appreciating it more since 2019

tbh it was a joke from an edgy weird teenager,I don't think he should get cancelled for cracking on his own father & by extension himself

Nah it was Nkono Teles and Bibi Mascel. They both have work that fits the afro-boogie genre though.

It's not a good look to say you're ugly because of your African genetics, even as a teen. It's self hate towards that side of him he had probably because of his dad being absent

Between his lyrics, saying stuff like this and CMIYGL being about a 19 year old he's now dating, he's lucky to somehow be getting more popular and mainstream

I remember there was a trend where Haitians would claim every other Black celebrity was part Haitian.
