Influences: Mobb Music, Hip Hop Soul, G-Funk, No Limit

    Stepping Stones: L-Mac-N and Doesha

Origins: Early 1990s in North Omaha, Nebraska

What is the point of 4/20 when marijuana is legalized mostly everywhere in the United States

    Keyword: Mostly

Only 10 states in the United States, prohibit marijuana usage. One of those states is Nebraska. A 2024 ruling legalized marijuana for solely medical usage, not recreational.

The long-time approval makes the existence of this Hip Hop scene in Omaha, Nebraska rather interesting During the subgenre's prime, weed was forbidden and people were going to jail due to the law. Yet, the O.G.'s from the Northside of Omaha continued to vocally rep their love of the chronic.

Possibly derived from an ancient Sanskrit term. Doezha is slang for weed. Omaha, or The Big O, embraced a West Coast influence and perphaps a bit of Chi-Town DNA for good measure. In 1991, a producer known as L-Mac'N started off as an R&B singer:
    As L-Mac before the reinvention

Around this time, L-Mac'N would venture with a close friend of his, Doesha, a rapper and producer as well. Together, the duo began connecting with other artists in the area. Before you know it, the rest is history

The subgenre's lyrics entail your usual gangsta rap themes: social commentary, game, money, women, and of course, doezha

Sonically, the production style that the scene chooses has similarities to that of No Limit albeit more less funkier and often more hypnotic, laidback sound . It's very R&B coded with it's emphasis on male or female sanged hooks. Interestingly, it often has a Proto-Snap( sound mixed with G-Funk. Which creates a rather line-dance esque sound. That isn't just an observation on a few songs but to most of the North Side Omaha Hip Hop scene at the period of time(Ex. Doezha L-Mac-N, Pocket Pete, etc.)

@op is that where the term Doja originated?

It is possible but the term is of Ancient Sanskrit origin. So, it probably was redefined with AAVE coming into play as time went on.
