hasn't really had a proper break. if i remember correctly she's been dropping a new album every 18 months or so. there's not much turnaround there
already has 3 studio albums since her first 3.5 years ago
Dam
she signed as a teenager if I'm remembering correctly. she had No buzz, just connections and good music. the deal probably seemed like a godsend at the time. looking back it seems like a bad situation but she probably never would've made it without the resources of her label just because it let her make music and get deep in the industry without needing a regular job. she needed to work for years to get to this point.

"Doja blew up in 2019 with the release of her sophomore album Hot Pink, but she’s been releasing music for nearly a decade. She self-published her first single “So High” — a psychedelic ode to stoners — on SoundCloud in 2012, and it caught the attention of a major record label. So, at 17, Doja Cat signed to RCA and Kemosabe Records, the latter of which was cofounded by Dr. Luke. (Later in her career, Doja’s association with the disgraced producer would prove to be one of her many lasting controversies.)"
I feel so bad for her I thought I had problems working 11-9 every day but her struggles of being a millionaire singer really puts it into perspective

Yeah I mean just more easily provable, Amala came out in 2018 and legit no one knew who she was at the time, album was a flop but was on Kemosabe/RCA, and then as far as singles go Moo (which is what most people discovered her from) was literally a RCA-released single. Lots of people thought she was a new/indie artist after Moo not realizing that was literally a label pushed single from someone who already had a freshman major label release
