Verse is so painfully average it feels disrespectful to Drake lol. Imagine if Drake didn’t bring his A game on Light Up. Drake would probably get flamed for that to this day. Jay won that but Drake definitely held his own and earned more respect as a rapper. That’s why these features matter especially early on in the career.
100% agree with all this. Light Up was an incredibly important moment for Drake’s career and he delivered. If anything, he exceeded expectations.
The way drake says his music isn’t relatable anymore is interesting. I wonder where he goes from here lyrically?
Back to not talking about wealth / dating famous women
Sneakin was a drake song tho
Yeah I was on the fence for that reason. I couldn’t remember if he labeled it as a Drake or 21 song.
Then maybe add his Versace remix verse to the mix?
This is the most barred out feature Drake has ever done for a younger rapper
Am I wrong?
true. only person he give verses like this is Ross fr

I think y’all being too harsh on the kid tbh. Jack is 24 right?
Drake dropped f***ing take care at 24, Jack is not going to be drake lol.
But let’s be honest, the kid held his own. If you listen to Jack’s music, this is one of his better verses. Nobody really thought he’d come close to drake on a song what are we doing?

Damn this one of his better ones???
Back to not talking about wealth / dating famous women
He’s talked about that for nearly his whole career lol
He’s talked about that for nearly his whole career lol
It was more relatable on tc/nwts
Naming random girls working at hooters and s***
Damn this one of his better ones???
This is a good verse from Jack. He didn’t get washed
This is a good verse from Jack. He didn’t get washed
76 pages disagree with u tbh
Wonder if it’s an older verse (before Kanye reunion) or a recent verse. Any drake sleuths have the answer? It is a helluva verse imo.
This is a good verse from Jack. He didn’t get washed
I agree. The people you’re talking to had their minds made up on Jack a while ago
76 pages disagree with u tbh
y would u read those...
Lmao drake did the same s*** in his verse though
Fair and tbh, it’s a leak I’m not bout to judge it like it’s finished. Technically we shouldn’t be hearing it

Yes, but the people checking for Jack Harlow don’t give a f*** about his bars or his pen game, they just wanna hear palatable and accessible pop rap. He’s giving them exactly that.
Drake was tryna prove himself as a lyricist and as an actual force to be reckoned with and respected in the rap game. Jack’s not tryna do that or appeal to that crowd whatsoever.

Not harsh at all really, if a verse is average then it’s average. That simple. There was nothing interesting in his bars. Nothing that really creates any discussion behind them, wordplay is as vanilla as it gets.
This type of song he’s just not ready for yet. This verse might’ve been cool on a catchy song but this isn’t that.
There were all kind of Drake comparisons going on here where have you been?

This point is invalid because this type of song does not appeal to that audience.
