Brah if Drake were to disappear tomorrow and never drop again, this forum would be dead in the water within a year

Nah, it would just turn into a forum of the same 8 users doing skin color tests like theyre buying paint at Home Depot to debate if someone is dark enough to spit or not

You won't see this kind of stuff anywhere outside of these hip-hop forums on the internet btw

  • Nah it’s one of many clever ways he plays with the English language, it’s not the only thing he does

Those mfs are still living in the pre-Covid era with that fake woke s*** man lol

  • The bars are lazy, most people can s*** out a bunch iceman level metaphors and similes

IM ON THE TOP TWISTED LIKE A CAN OPENER

I GOT CLEAN MONEY OVERSEAS LIKE SOME IRISH SPRING

MY SHOOTERS GOT STICKS UNDER THEIR ARMS LIKE DEO! WE CAN LINK UP AND FIGHT LIKE EVO!

NO BEEF CAN EVER GET INBETWEEN ME AND MY TEAM YOU GET IN MIDDLE OF THEM AND THE BOSS WE’LL TAKE YOU OUT JUST LIKE FLOSS (Mob Boss line)

HOW CAN I SAY IM UNDER PRESSURE? WHENEVER THEY S*** DROP THEY NEED ME LIKE AIR FRESHENER! (DJ Khaled diss)

LA SHOW HAD THEM LINING UP LIKE SOME DAMN CLIPPERS (Triple entendre)

QUICK TO CUT YOU OUT THATS WHY IM NAMED AFTER SOME SCISSORS! I KNOW SOME SHARP GIRLS OUT WEST SHOUT TO SZA!

THEY TRIED TO WRAP ME UP BUT I POKED HOLES IN THE PLOT! THEY SCHEMES ARE LIKE THE FOIL YOU PUT OVER THE POT! (triple entendre/Kendrick sub/UMG Sub/NLU rebuttal)

  • Yo the way the haters ran to the first page is f***ing hilarious. Almost like they have a groupchat and sent a “yo a negative thread about iceman was made run,” text.

  • Some of them on the album are hard

But I agree, the past 5-6ish years or so he's been extremely reliant on similies in his lyricism, and it's even bled over into his R&B tracks

  • I say ‘we gotta talk about Us’ I feel like Jordan Peele

Drake has writers, but their not necessarily there to improve anything. I think his writers are there to streamline his raps and make sure his metaphors/punchlines don't go over his intended audiences head.

I don't understand how you can hear make them cry, red button, stories about my brother, wick man,

and hear s*** like "Don't make me break your kevin hart boy"

and think the pen hasn't gotten significantly better.

He's milesssss better as a rapper in every facet in 2026 than he was even 5 years ago, much less 10.
The cheesy punchlines are par for the course when you're making a rap album for mass consumption but on the whole, he's WAY better at rapping.

I don't understand how you can hear make them cry, red button, stories about my brother, wick man,

Three of these songs are ass to be fair

Also Red Button is a contender for one of his worst-ever verses, that "-ation" scheme is ridiculously lazy

Flow state raps on red button. And none of those songs are ass that’s insane

Unless you aren’t a Drake fan to which, fairs

When you’re in a zone no need to switch the scheme up, it worked. Switching the rhyme scheme for the sake of it would be silly, I think.

His writers aren’t even ‘writers’ per se

They’re really there to help with new flows new hooks new tones, etc

To which I completely understand. You don’t have a run as long as his without that kind of assistance.

Red Button, Stories About My Brother, Wick Man are ass

Just overly wordy, reliant on punchlines, uninteresting deliveries and flows, rapping for the sake of rapping

Yeah, closer to a producer then an actual writer but their really neither. It's definitely not like how Ye use to do where it's just guys hanging out in the studio, doing a cypher and seeing what sticks, pretty sure Drakes team is more business/cordial then that.

To that point I’ve always maintained that one of Drake’s best skills is that he’s an exceptional producer

Even if you’re using writers or an idea you still have to be the one to pick it, pick which part of it, arrange it, inject something to it and finish it, etc. his producing is as great of a talent as his rapping

Like he’s way more likely to work with writers on ‘Janet STFU’ than Make them cry to which I completely understand.

Yep, when you need to dominate as many avenues as he does, you need as many perspectives as possible. You can tell he's the writer on more personal tunes, but I think his club/radio are more collaborative efforts

  • Swayzomad

    Why do you think this?

Cause bro is almost 40, and he still writes songs for college kids, rap songs at that. Having writers is apart of the music production.

  • Swayzomad

This is still a bad thing though right?

It’s in the eye of the beholder

For me it’s not. Collaborating with writers, using other people’s ideas, does not mean you yourself don’t or can’t write.

I wish some of my favorite rappers would operate in the same way.

  • 2words

I think people who hate similes and wordplay are ruining rap discourse.

Imagine this thread about Carter 3 “Wayne spamming similes, I’m rare like Mr clean with hair? Really? cringe”

No disrespect to Wayne because a lot of those bars were of the time but he has some cringe bars too
