Beats on iceman (scale choice, chord progs, melodies, sound selection) were the best overall on a Drake project since IYRTITL.
Those same moody, mysterious, dark vibes we heard on that 2013-2015 run.
Drew A Picasso on FATD and Search and Rescue also took me back to that era. Those moody minor key beats with Drake on them is 🔥
I don't think Drake's had better production on a project than Iceman frankly, like no bullshit
absolutely not
but that being said, I don't think I feel like Kendrick has been his best rapping self lately
saw flashes of it on 6:16 in LA but haven't seen that That Part Remix type of Kendrick for awhile
and I know GNX was more about simplicity but even Mr Morale I didnt think had super stand out rap performances just good song-making
Cole out of the 3 has the sharpest pen rn
This is all facts
Not disagreeing completely, but curious on your thoughts on Firm Friends? That beat + the vocal inflection and delivery is the closest I think we've gotten to Room For Improvement and Comeback Season Drizzy
I'm actually listening to it again rn!
I honestly think Firm Friends and Make Them Cry should have been the only rap heavy songs on this project
I think what was poisoning the well for me initially on Firm Friends (did not appreciate it first fewlistens) is that delivery we hear a lot on this record on the Make Them tracks and I feel it started to stale out
But yeah Firm Friends does give Room For Improvement
But my original comment was more about the similies in particular or the one liners.
Lines like "Don't make me break yo Kevin Hart boy" stood out because of the way he said them at the time. Verses like the F***in Problems feature was iconic because of the delivery.
i think that Scary Hours/Conductor-type vibe could use some of that old Drake spontaneity
i can’t even say that. his fans literally be mind blown when he says the most basic s***. he knows his audience doesn’t have critical thinking skills that’s why he spams punchlines so he can look like a genius
I hate when yall do this too. When he does this, the literal point is how the lines stack up on top of each other. There’s a momentum that develops line to line. I don’t get why yall don’t like it
That s*** is lazy and didn’t stack up into anything, cmon now
It’s cool cause it’s witty and shows talent and stuff but he does it way too often now
Feels like when he was in his prime he was more poetic

Drake fans are the most educated ones on here kid. Many of us have graduate-level degrees lol. Kbots are literally the biggest pseudo intellectuals on this site

Thank you Dr. Cheyenne Bryant
I think people who hate similes and wordplay are ruining rap discourse.
Imagine this thread about Carter 3 “Wayne spamming similes, I’m rare like Mr clean with hair? Really?
cringe”
This is FACTS

I think people who hate weak similes and wordplay are exactly the people trying to save rap discourse so outsiders don't think it is as easy as it sounds.

I agree
He never used to do this but has gotten lazy
If he takes like 10 extra minutes on each bar I'm sure he can get around this

tbh, there’s nothing wrong with any of these bars OP pointed out, especially considering none of them are even among the best bars I’ve heard on the record thus far. If another rapper not named Drake said this same s***, no one would really bat an eye but because it is drake we gotta act like standard rap similes are some kind of revelation on his career at this point lmao
Hitting net like a tennis ball
I bet you missed the other part
Hittin the net for LOVE like a tennis ball
In tennis if you hit the net you don’t get a point, and if you have zero in tennis they say you’re losing “30-Love” or whatever. I fail to see what’s wrong with that scheme, it’s a nice little entendre

Anyone who reads these lines and thinks it means rap is easy is a f***ing idiot lmao
