Like open world games fail to capture a real open world.

There are a few exceptions, fallout, Skyrim, rdr2, gta (to an extent) and BOTW

They had towns, cities and people. They have cycles, a purpose and there are things to do just as simple as watching them interact.

Companies like Ubisoft just create s*** worlds that are big and have the same 3 things to do without capturing the essence. In BOTW it’s not “see there and go” it’s the journey to get there, the little details that make the worlds believable.

This game ain’t got that it’s just a souls game and it’s mad surface level atm

I’m enjoying the game so far, I’m 12 hours in and completely addicted. It’s a great game. But imo Souls games work better in a more closed world.

    Maybe.

Im a few hours in and nothing has blown me away at all. Im a sucker for open world games that immerse me. I want to feel apart of the world but here I just get a sense it’s all dressing to hide bosses left, right and centre

Been feeling immersed since day 1 tbh. But I’ve been following quest lines and reading lore etc. you have to keep in mind that enemy/ boss placement has lore behind it and why they are located in their specific areas. That alone makes this game deeper than botw

I think the poor optimisation is pulling me about abit. Just feels like a lifeless world that only has a few npcs and loads of bosses everywhere

Well its their take on an open world. The level and world design is at its ds1 peak again with giving you the vibes of discovering places noone ever saw before. All that with their most polished combat system and the story shapes up to be pretty dam interesting

But if you enjoy cities and quests and different activities and such then well this game might just not be for you

Doesn’t help when everyone’s absolutely praising the open world and comparing it to BOTW for it to be dull and empty.

Uhhh yeah, in rdr2 theres not much to the open world besides a long walk way. Only thing to do in the open world is to hunt, which is entirely optional.

The game itself its great tho.

The only major thing it has that is different is cities. Everything else is the "same". Both have different night n day events, both have secert npcs, both have optional areas, both have secrets, both have random events.

Unless you absolutely love minigames, its not that revolutionary. The open world is just background.

Story n characters has nothing to do with open world btw lmao. Wasnt talking about that.

This open world is like skyrim n botw had a baby with dark souls spice.

Rdr2 has so many different encounters throughout the world... Not sure where you got that there's not much to it.

Like you can find some random cabin in the woods just walking around and there's someone living there and there's actual possible events tied to it.

I am only 8 hours in, so this is a very early opinion of mine but i also think that something about BOTWs world was more captivating but Elden Ring isn't too far behind for me. Also Elden Ring got real dungeons

Sorry but im not the only one that has called Rockstar open worlds hollow & basically a pointless playset like a city rug at a daycare

You argue gameplay & chars then equate it to open world design lol doesnt even make sense which is what my original two replies were all about

    To each their own tho

So does this & most other other games, but i do agree there. Its also more easily relatable too.

rockstar open worlds are just as empty as most

sure there a little encounters and s*** but it's all tiny s*** and nothing substantial or actual content, it's pretty much easter egg tier

90% of structures and areas are just empty or aren't really useful other than to give the sense of scope

if it was nopixel level, it would be way better imo

you're assuming every open world is mimicking ours tho

nobody really wants a game where every nook and cranny is full of npcs living their own personal lives

even with stuff like skyrim and rockstar, most of those ppl and instances go overlooked and don't add much for most ppl. they aren't actual content unless it's an easter egg or quest. rockstar maps aren't actually full and alive lol

fromsoft worlds are about artstyle, landscapes and the interconnected lore, not create a believable other world or society or some
