I think they did a decent job with the lore for Elden Ring. I was able to piece together a general outline of what happened by playing through the game w/o watching any lore videos. Still had many questions of course.
Only other FS game I’ve played is Bloodborne. As far as piecing the story together goes, that game is trash. Idrc what anyone says in that regard. Everything else about the game is fantastic, but piecing together the actual story w/o any lore videos is a tall task unless you’re a FS game vet

Yeah, the general story is pretty easy to piece together IMO, I really only needed lore videos for the in-depth stuff.
I was raised on Metroid with its subtle atmospheric storytelling so it's not exotic to me but it just doesn't sink in
otherwise amazing game just have no idea what's going on
Did you beat it ? I couldn’t get into this joint but with the dlc coming might start from scratch and give it another go

Big agree. Elden ring story wasn’t that hard to follow but the lore goes miles deep. Bloodborne had me lost as f*** for a long time though and way less is explained even though it’s probably my favorite of all From’s settings. BB’s lore is also higher concept
After this DLC I'm good on souls games for a long time.
Unless they remake BB, then I'm back in baby.

Elden Ring lore is also huge compared to Bloodborne and Dark Souls so youll pick up alot more naturally.
I also think it helps that Elden Ring focuses alot on characters. Remembering Malenia or Ranni is alot easier than a seemingly random outer space spider.
And without getting into it too much the player characters are also very different. It kinda gets unnoticed but From Soft actually puts alot of thought into what character you play and how the motivations of that protagonist translates directly into the world, lore and even gameplay mechanics.
Basically inElden Ring your character is actually supposed to learn about the demigods and the heroes of the story where in the old games its more of a „dont even question what you do and why you kill these guys“
Should I do NG+ or start a new character entirely

NG+ makes you kinda OP imo since you keep all your gear and stats.

Nah I had too much s***ty life stuff distracting me, never got to finish. Looking forward to trying again as soon as I'm done Hollow Knight.

Hollow knight goated too
Started another playthrough so I can have a slightly underleveled character for the DLC. Man once you get the ball rolling the game is so hard to put down, 5 hours in and i’ve already gotten Radahn, Rykard and Rennala. It’s crazy looking at my OG character with 200 hours playtime, I can probably finish the game in under 15 this run.

Apparently it doesnt matter since DLC will have a different scaling system
happy 2nd birthday to the GOAT
Every time I’ve stopped playing it calls back to me like the green goblin mask this the greatest game of all time
Wait so according to Vaati and translated interviews, the dlc will have a new power scaling gameplay feature. One like sekiro where you increase attack power by defeating bosses, outside of your rune level
This makes a lot of sense so it will give completed builds an opportunity to struggle and feel a sense of strength progression while exploring the DLC

They always should have done this, sekiro balance was perfect. Over leveling in Elden Ring is really easy if you want to complete all the content
i’m ready to give this game another try
i beat margit the first time then kept dying in some stupid castle so i sold it lmao
gonna buy it again soon though
I know its not happening but man i wish the DLC would give some quests the ending they deserve. One of my least favorite aspects of this game Is some quests are so half assed compared to their predecessors. Patches, tanith, the trio of nepheli loux, kenneth haight and gostoc, hyetta (which is more bad writing but i'll put It here regardless) and sellen being the most egregious examples. So many of these have awesome starts, they just get post in the sauce too quickly. If anything, i hope the new npcs are better written and integrated

I love sekiro but it's a case of different philosophies. Elden Ring is meant to be more accessible in that you can "overlevel" to help you get through parts. If you get stuck at one place, you can explore other areas and naturally level up to return strong enough to overcome whatever you were stuck at. In the endgame anyways I don't think it's that simple to overlevel against Malenia, Placideux, and Mohg for example.
Sekiro is a case of git gud or quit. But I think this makes perfect sense for this ER DLC since it's a 2 year post release DLC with most people's characters maxed out.

Agreed regarding Patches and Tanith, but I feel like Nepheli/Gostoc/Haight, Sellen, Hyetta were all pretty complete?
Idk how many unanswered questions this DLC will answer because to me it feels like a cut/unfinished content being added. Mohg/Miquella always felt the most incomplete to me. One last legacy dungeon in the shadow area were meant to be in the base game for a miquella ending but left cut and they're adding it back in with additional content 2 years has allowed them to add to.
