it's not an insult to FJM, doesn't seem like he was comparing them in any way other than being two artists that write most of their stuff solo. he probably just thought of them off the top.

there's plenty other artists he could've said that I'm sure he appreciates in the same way. Lorde, Billie, Ed Sheeran, etc etc

yeah i get you but they're not really in the same league writing wise

does billie write like that? i thought a lot of the songs were all finneas. especially when the party's over, ocean eyes etc.

he was on youtube before he was a musician, so he had a pretty natural following i think. just the way things are these days lol

i think this is more a case of Elton being aware. but i'm not even sure i ever truly found out what a plant is so

He started making music two years ago after doing acoustic overs. From what i see, he released his first actual song spring 2017 and was signed to Republic doing 100+ millions streams on each release the next year. Within a few months he’s doing stuff like Late Night performances. Seems mad weird to me cus he just makes the same cliche bullshit indie guitar music every act like this does. And now he’s getting direct Elton John mentions.

Right but I think quantity is his focus in the statement (although I'm sure he likes Conan's music a great deal to shout him out).

Majority of them are Finneas. but it's still the same deal of not having many writers on the song (if any, outside of them two). I feel like he'd put her in that category.

I don't get why you should do it by yourself

That’s not what art is about lol

right but maybe the following he built on youtube helped to catapult his music career? i just looked it up and he has hundreds of thousands of views on his vlog.

i wouldn't put much stock in an Elton John mention. as a musician what else is there to do besides stay up on all the new, young talent lol (I also believe Conan is queer? so that may be a factor)

new thread title: what is a plant?

Probably though he is speaking to the concept of think tank style music production where their only focus is viable product and no f***s given for artistry or innovation

i feel like there was more people back then who had bad looks, image, stage presence and vocals but got a way with it cos there songwriting was so good. idk if that would happen now

Kendrick is definitely the best. out of the major rappers Drake is probably a prolific writer even after you take away the ghost written songs. And Ye was for his production alone too

Most definitely, they got away cause the main product they were selling back then was the LP. You knew who were famous for their live performances like James Brown,Queen,Michael Jackson etc and then you had album artist. Hell no you can’t get away with it now cause too much is on display, they let us see what they wanted us to see back then.

It’s Kendrick,Ye and Drake in that order(maybe we should throw in J.Cole too)

well he never uses the phrase "fake music" so let's not misquote the man lol

but i think another user had it right when they described it as a "think tank style of production." he's basically saying nobody's writing songs from point A-Z anymore, and that makes for generic music. and he's not entirely wrong.

  • Aug 27, 2020

I think I get what he's saying, he's lowkey right. But eh it's all music. Whether "real" or "fake". I think what he truly wants to say is that most songs in the top 50 on Spotify f***ing suck ass, and from what I just glanced...he might be onto something by saying that.

yeah it's true and has been the case for ages, for many top artists

but that doesn't invalidate the music, nor make it not 'real' (fake, for convenience)

  • Aug 27, 2020

i'm looking at the top 50 right now and lmao wtf? are these tik tok songs or something?

also that Juice WRLD album is all over it damn, that's been out for a few weeks now right?
