Last James Blake Album was really good. Kind of the album I anticipated after If the Car besides you moves ahead.

@Koala Yo yo. Just re-watched the White Ribbon after you mentioned it recently. Have always really liked the film but have had mixed feelings about the film’s message, mainly whether the film thoroughly examines the social origins of Nazism. I accept the allegory of the film but beyond that I’m skeptical. I think @Aruji or the estranged befly would probably have more insight into that than me since they’re more knowledgeable on the cultural history of Germany pre ww1. Anyway, I almost never write reviews, but I decided to jot down my thoughts on LB. It’s kind of a review but not really. More me just trying to make sense of the film, but I guess it reads like a review. I wrote this in like 25 minutes so it may seem a bit scattered. Curious about your thoughts on the film

I like your interpretation/thoughts on the film. Tbh im not sure I fully understood Hanake's allegory but the overall experience of the film was something very unique with this almost claustrophobic feeling of dread. The B&W and shots feel masterful.

I actually nabbed this book called Kaputt by Curzio Malaparte that looked interesting, something of a hybrid of non and fiction into a WW2 story/report. Saw Michael Gira post it and thought id give it a shot

Yeah I definitely agree with the feeling of dread. Haneke is pretty clever in the way he frames shots. He really likes to f*** with the audience... You definitely don't need to read into it as much as I did to like the film. Actually then it becomes more like an intellectual exercise. I didn't arrive at that interpretation totally on my own most likely, I've read for years that the film is supposed to explore the social origins of Nazism. But for me the scope of it extends much further. And it does kind of have a horror feel to it.

never heard of that book but sounds interesting
