I've ordered like 20 books in the last month or two. I could post a picture when the rest arrive but most of the covers are pretty trash tbh.

To be honest these days reading on my computer is so much more useful because it's easier to highlight things/annotate/search for phrases if I want to return to a previous passage.

But there's something kinda sacred about the ritual of reading from actual paper that can't be replicated on the computer

I don't think he was saying we should shame people who are fat, just that promoting obesity isn't a good thing.

I have a friend from college who was 400+ pounds and he died of a heart attack a couple years ago so I get pretty annoyed when I see a lot of these morbidly obese influencers (many who have died recently) espousing pseudo-scientific bullshit about how it's not unhealthy to be 300 pounds.

Yea broski I try not to order too many books before finishing what im reading first but they were like $10 bucks each and caught my eye. Im currently reading BEE's The Shards, its cool but has no reason to be 600 pages. And yea Harry Crews is a character haha he doesn't have the grace of McCarthy or Faulkner but theirs something there, like getting kicked with a steel toe boot haha

I get why reading on a computer can be helpful but I can't do it, holding the book and finishing a good read feels too

I’m currently reading Leslie Marmon Silko’s Almanac of the Dead.

Sorta reminds me of Ishmael Reed’s Mumbo Jumbo, tho much longer & taking me longer than expected to get through. Not a bad novel, but also not super clicking w me for some reason

Good for you lol. I have attempted that book. It's not that it was difficult (at least the parts I read, I understand it gets more difficult as more characters are introduced) but I have absolutely zero desire whatsoever to read it at this point.

I do think DFW was a great writer though and I'd still like to finish his essays.

The most difficult (literary fiction) book I've read is still the Sound and Fury by Faulkner

Was exhausting but I loved it. Haven't been that absorbed by a book in ages

I actually think it was easier to follow the further through I got, the first couple hundred pages are the only bit that felt like work. But I get that it's daunting and I wouldn't have started if I didn't have a bunch of free time on my hands - I read over half of it in a week on my holiday and almost broke my brain
I'd recommend giving it another go if you do ever get the time though, was worth it.

And yeah Faulkner is a struggle. I read As I Lay Dying when I was younger (I think that's actually supposed to one of his more accessible ones) but I found it such hard work that it sort of put me off. Maybe I should try him again

Yeah I've been getting back into reading and I wanna hit all those classic authors. I'm the type to drop a book if it doesn't immediately grab me within the first few chapters though.

I read Frankenstein this year, thought it was pretty good. Mad that she was basically a child when she wrote it
