Man

Re-listening to Bon Iver's second album for the first time in a while, and yuppo... super sloppy and pointlessly bombastic without any real form or technique. Can't believe some of the high reviews this thing got. Feels extremely amateurish compared to the debit and 22 million

Most people put the accent on the á not the e
Wait you're a mod reacting so nonchalantly to this
i had no idea. ok I'm glad how obviously unserious it was

I think the charm is literally all you mentioned, sloppy bombastic, without any form etc. While something like 22 Million felt too calculated in trying to match that. At times feeling almost artificial.
For Emma is still
come winter

Anyone here watched The Celebration by Thomas Vinterberg? Dear god, that was uncomfortable. Prolly the most hilarious and excruciating film I've seen in years. Might even be better than The Hunt. @Fella @Aruji
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxWowKsqNdYyup it's a great film but I remember thinking it was heavy-handed. I might have to rewatch it. been almost 10 years
brilliant essay by scaruffi. Remarkably insightful

Wtf
this is some all time masturbatory nonsense
Not sure if I ever listened to a bon iver album more than once
22 million and For Emma are essential imo

Ehh, 22 feels way tighter in execution and isn't over the top with pointless bombast. The records are completely different. 22 is more of a marvel of electronic engineering, really loved what he did with the arrangements on that. Felt like he was adding layers and layers of sound on bon Iver for no reason. Bro worked on MBDTF and thought he could replicate that extravagance
yup it's a great film but I remember thinking it was heavy-handed. I might have to rewatch it. been almost 10 years
I can understand that. Even though it is completely over-the-top, I think most of the film actually plays out in a very realistic way. The absurdism functions less as exaggeration and more as revelation. I remember thinking "how the hell are they going to end this film?", and luckily it never devolved into melodrama or sentimental resolution. There were a few flaws for sure.
