    listening to loads of 80s Gothic Rock and New Wave recently made me realize what a towering masterpiece Ridgway's The Big Heat actually is. Wow, loving it even more now. Also, quite the jump from the good/great Wall Of Voodoo albums.

    @RASIE f***in loves this album

    A little too camp for me

    @Aruji Big Heat

    It is super campy haha and damn there are some all time bangers on there. Right out the gate with the title track and Pick it Up. Huge jams

    I actually was watching a random movie from the 90s a couple months ago and the title track came out of nowhere on the soundtrack and instantly got my attention. Wish i could remember what movie it was

    Edit: It was Night of the Creeps from 1986, same year as the album.

    Idk it's campy but it has that cinematic noir atmosphere. Reminds me a bit of that one Noir Archer season I really loved + the songwriting is stellar. Guy is such a great storyteller here.

    was it good? the film sounds interesting?

    Yeah Night of the Creeps is great 80s horror romp.

    And yeah i totally agree with you for sure. The album sounds so amazing when it's played really loud. I swear when i blast it in my car, i feel like i'm sitting in the center of the arrangement and i can feel every sound. I think it might one of the most well-thought out albums in terms of mixing.

    Again, perfect example, "Pick It Up and Put It in Your Pocket"... Those synths are so damn PUNCHY, then the harmonica comes in so loud and clear it's like it's in 3D, and then the chorus hits and his vocal suddenly go from up front & clear to moving "back" and fuzzy. But even when you try to listen for that vocal change, it's almost impossible to pinpoint the moment it happens. It's all so damn smooth.

    And of course thats not to mention the like 50 other instruments throughout the song lol. I swear that one song has just as many different sounds as the entirety of Remain In Light

    The Pleasure Principle used to be one of Fam thread's classics. We used to blast "Metal", "M.E.", and "Films" back when we would all join one of those group DJ websites.

    @WASHINGTON is a big fan for sure too

    man why does og Planet of the Apes get so much acclaim

    the fact that it gets mentioned in the same sentence as 2001, Rosemarys Baby, OUATITW, Kuroneko etc when people discuss 1968 triggers me

    Zardoz did it better... the camp

    love Kubrick's quote about how he he lost best costumes to Planet of The Apes because they thought he used real apes. However, the film as a whole is solid. I like it but it's nowhere near the others

    Zardoz is so much better

    Even if 2001 didn't come out the same year, I think I would still hate on it but especially having 2001 that year makes it seem so bad. Couldn't think of anything I liked about it.
