I moved away from that town shortly after she got out, but from what i could keep up with, it was a few years until she could actually do things on her own. She is still probably classified as mentally incompetent as an adult. Borderline Down's Syndrome stuff.
However she was fighting it in ICU for several weeks so it was just swimming through her brain eating holes. If your mom was only in hospital for a fraction of that time then it sounds like she was lucky and it didnt have much time to ravage her brain like it does for a lot of younger people. I would guess her prognosis is probably a lot better than most patients.
Yeah mom was on death's door in a coma when I got there on Monday. Eyes kinda opened Up on Tuesday but we're totally vacant. Started making death glare eye contact with the nurses when they tried to brush your teeth or cleaner on Wednesday. By Thursday she was flailing like Gollum and seething. She was able to respond to enough commands to take her air tube out before I had to come home yesterday (she's 5 hours away and my business was gonna fall apart if I didn't). My sister just getting there today so she will have a familiar face around us she slowly comes to.

finally gave in to the FOMO and applied to the film set painters union a while ago. Some friends pulled some strings and I got accepted today and start painting the sets for next season of The Last Of Us on Tuesday.

Yeah it sounds like she is going to make a great recovery tbh. Still going to be pretty hard but being to respond and take her tube out that soon is a really good sign

nurses can't match her wiley mountain woman strength.When my dad decided he was done trying to fight his cancer and was ready for assisted suicide he didn't warn my sister or I specifically cause he didn't want us to see him like that
