I hate talking about sales since it's such a shallow way to approach media but: Final Fantasy is never going back to turn-based combat; it's Square's big budget flagship IP and they want it to succeed in the global market where action games are far more popular.
For comparison, Persona 5 is the most celebrated turn-based RPG in recent memory and its sales (~8 million) are barely touching a subpar action game like XV (~10 million), let alone something like Monster Hunter: World (~18 million) or Elden Ring (20 million +).
Obviously a niche for turn-based RPGs exists and Square is capitalising on it with titles like Dragon Quest, Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler, etc. but they have greater ambitions for the Final Fantasy brand.
This, they probably don't feel like they need to keep FF turn based when they have other IPs for that style of gameplay
By what year y’all think they gonna go back to turn based
I think they’ll do a lower spec AAA turn-based FF spinoff some day. Something with a MH RISE level budget that can be played on Nintendo as well. That would be the best case scenario imo
Always the case fella
I thought was possibility of seeing other games or announcements too . I feel like I don’t want to know more going to shut off if it spoils too much
