Work ethic was a great episode but I cant help but think about the S3 finale and all the weird unnecessary s*** Van was doing, it goes against her whole protective nature in this episode cus essentially she left Lottie behind to go sell human hands and meth

Insanity cant be explained with that type of rationale. She had a massive breakdown which made her lose who she was

Season 3's finale is the worst thing in this entire f***ing show and I wish it never happened.
The show would be basically a perfect show without it and it has impacted absolutely nothing in Season 4.
season 3 gonna come back to every single one of yal one day and you will regret your current feelings toward it.

I still adore Season 3. Every episode except the finale is either solid or perfect TV.

She out of nowhere became some big model all over magazines within weeks who sold meth, had two boyfriends, and helped cooked human hands to rich folks
I get Atlanta deals with the surreal, but at least every other episode some how follows a similar string...that finale came completely out of nowhere as if it was some sort of fever dream
Next episode is gonna f***ing hurt

Manic episode aka reality being hyperbolized in surreal way. Wow. Just like the rest of the show

The aspect ratio being ever so different to seem more streamlined/separated from the rest of the episodes.
Someone in comments says it looks shot on film. This is gonna be heavy.

I mean she lost Lottie in that one

her descent into escapism (living in paris, falling into this black amelie character she created, the drama) ALL of that was because she wanted to do everything but be around her baby
she felt like more than a liability, more than not enough for her child. she felt like a legit danger to her child.
the episode is exaggerated but so much of the show is exaggerated. i struggle to understand why audiences have such a strong gripe against the surrealism in that episode, compared to all the other episodes.
yes niggas was eating hands, but it’s just a narrative device used to paint a larger picture. van is completely lost in her identity as a mother, as a lover, as a friend.
it’s such a beautiful portrait, especially if you’ve been a black american in paris for some time. she captured a feelin that is so hard to put into words. the way she ran away from her home life was so striking to me, because i could relate to that desperation of not wanting to return to the people you love out of fear of who you are / aren’t.
it’s a beautiful episode that i feel like audiences don’t respect, out of a lack of empathy for her character. they spell it out so clearly at the end of the episode, but i feel like ppl fail to see van’s side and go so hard against her.
i hope one day audiences will be able to empathize deeply with van’s character arc, because i truly feel like some amazing things are being said through van

So you clearly didn’t read where I said “I get the show deals with the surreal but all the other episodes followed the same string”
That means all the other episodes had some sorta believability to the world Atlanta has created. Whereas S3 finale does not accomplish that at all. Not sure why I have to explain this to you

It’s just because all the other surrealism that has happened still connects in a unique way. And usually the surrealism is s*** happening AROUND the main characters, not the main characters just suddenly one day doing some completely different weird s***.
The subtle s*** Van was doing like disappearing for weeks. Pushing ppl into pools. Etc. worked perfectly for what they was tryna accomplish. That finale did not.
Y’all keep saying “she had a manic episode” umm duh, everyone knows that. Still doesn’t change the fact the finale absolutely sucked.
I'm triggered by the E7 description lmao
