this whole show is an of our deepest feelings/fears from the black experience in this world actually coming to life. Like the s*** that seems surreal in this show are really the things we ponder about

I thought it had some great world building and comedy. And it built to a pretty beautiful catharsis at the end IMO.

idk if people offing themselves is a "beautiful catharsis"

This was a conservative’s nightmare and I loved it. This is how you do satire. Present something ridiculous and find the nugget of truth buried within.

Welp, this is gonna be misunderstood…

This was a classic. The episodes without the main cast are hitting it out of the park.

    it really shouldn’t

when you see the dude crying in the hotel you kinda feel bad cause yeah HE didn’t do anything
but when the other guy explains why this is meant to happen and black people have been asking the same question since slavery it all just comes back around

  • Apr 8, 2022

I'm behind 2 episodes now, can't wait to watch them both back to back

very true but i think the ep comes dangerously close (if not full on embracing it by the end) of being okay/supporting the idea of people needing to feel the same way rather than emphasizing that no one should be feeling that way.

The guy in the pool scene was A+ to show how it all makes sense but none of it is okay. Then the ending is like "see, they switched places! everything's okay!" That epilogue felt very off to me and felt at odds with how seriously they were tackling the issue from every angle.

This is exactly why I felt the episode was a miss for Atlanta standards because there wasn’t any complexity. A lot of telling instead of showing, but overall I think an important episode. I think one of the 4 main characters could have had a story in this episode as a diptych

I don’t really think Donald wants us to look at his satire and take everything at face value. Many things can be true:

The way reparations play out in this episode is like an absurd republican talking point come to life.

We should feel bad for this white guy.

Because of slavery, black people have not been given the opportunity to build generational wealth. Slavery is a great evil that still haunts the black community. That’s real hurt.

Sometimes the goal of extreme satire is not to give you extreme answers. I don’t think it’s advocating for revenge. I think the show is saying that the conversation around reparations is… complicated. But people should talk about it with more empathy.

The first episode was similarly nuanced. That’s one of the things I really appreciate about this show and season in general. We should be having these conversations.

I mean I agree but having the conversation's focus be "it's complicated" and then having an ending with a bow on it is ???

That line is so great bc they're so ignorant to the issues they've been walking around with for decades.

Very bold to have 2 episodes so far in the second to last season not centered around the main 4

Yeah idk how I feel about it. 1st episode was really good. This episode is good too but feel like I gotta did without it.

    I agree with this 100%

I don’t mind the “short stories”
That don’t serve the plot. But I would prefer to have at least one the main 4 in it. Like Teddy episode or Woods.
