This boot straps s*** when it comes to legit mental health issues then hiding behind the most obvious, low-hanging fruit stereotypes of people who take advantage of mental health awareness in order to stigmatize having mental health issues in general has to stop

It isn’t being “real” or having common sense. It’s just being a d***head with no empathy who thinks being ignorant of scientific research makes them more woke

if there's legitimate mental health concerns then yes it should 100% be addressed by a professional plus help from your family

i came home to find my gf unconcious one day, she took like 30 of those benadryl pills trying to kill herself. i know s*** like that is serious i've experienced it firsthand; never tried to imply otherwise

and to be clear, i think the awareness is good. Mental health IS important. But making it part of your identity can snowball in dangerous ways, trust me.

Yep this facts. My therapist preach this to me all the time. D**** are just a temporary escape, when you come back down to reality that’s when it usually hit harder.

How come webMD is seen as unreliable? Sorry I'm out of loop

webMD is unreliable because to use information you need expertise to place that info in context. Average person does not have the expertise to do this when it comes to medical symptoms. Certain diagnoses also need further testing, you can't just tell immediately from a couple of symptoms.

another bad thing is people will go and see like 10 different doctors just to get 1 of them to say the things they wanna hear.

I don't like to gatekeep mental health but PTSD is frequently misdiagnosed. Most people don't even realize an official PTSD diagnose can only happen 6 months after the traumatic incident (hence post being in the phrase).

Its not always possible to see a mental health professional, but if you really feel you have something going on, seeing somebody is as important as a regular doctor.

Also, plugging genomind. Its a test to determine what antidepressants work with your body. Its a cheek swab and is pretty affordable with payment options. The old way of getting medication was trial and error, this way its as exact as a regular medication. I got onto my current s*** with the test, and it's so far had 0 side effects.

Maybe it's difficult for it to not be a part of your identity if it has such a strong hold of your life? If someone has cancer, and it's making them really sick, would you think they're "making it part of their identity" if it's something they struggle with every day? It may be hard to understand what's going through someone's head, I just think that thinking that people who are struggling with mental health issues are just "making it part of their identity", and that's what makes it worse, isn't a good way of viewing it. And I have family struggling with serious mental health issues as well. Just my take on it
