Watch Gundam Thunderbolt
In mini series (it's like 3 or 4 episodes with 50 minute episodes) or in its 2 movie forms, trust me

i haven't watched anime for at least 10 years but tbf a mini series sounds digestible
and i remember watching two or three Gundam 00 episodes back then shortly after Code Geass became my favorite anime, so there's a tiny bit of gundam history

It's really good and not anime "cliches", it's also based on the grounded eras of Gundam so no mystical angel robots. Which I prefer the more grounded side of Gundam.
It is def the best introduction imo for Gundam along with 008th MS Team which is a twelve episode self contained mini series from the 90s, but Thunderbolt is modern from late 2010s (also a self contained series as well), Thunderbolt also has some space combat while 008th is all about intimate slow tactical ground warfare only.
It's really gritty and serious and has great themes, plus the soundtrack is insane.
If ur into mech games like Armored Core, Battletech, Chromehounds, or Front Mission then Thunderbolt is def the one, then followed by 008th if ur still interested. These fall into the few animes where you don't have to be an "anime fan" to enjoy them such as things like Cowboy Bebop or Ghost in the Shell n a few others (which I personally go thru phases of where I'm really into anime and watching a lot then I go thru long periods where I don't watch much and aren't interested in any at all).
The movie versions is Thunderbolt: December Sky first, then it goes Thunderbolt: Bandit Flower next - then the mini series encompasses both but with some expanded episodes n moments that don't happen in the movie versions: 4 episodes for December Sky and 4 episodes for Bandit Flower. It's so good and insane with the brutality of War and how mechs weigh down and destroy the body like in Armored Core, one of my fav pieces of media in general
I would personally suggest watching it as the mini Series for the extra content, but if ur on a tighter crunch then you can also def enjoy it a lot in the movie forms still - and if you end up liking it u can hmu and I can point you in the direction of the other more grounded Gundam series' and films like Iron Blooded Orphan series or Gundam F91 movie and a few others!
This s*** just a Pacific Rim game with the Gundam name slapped on it. 👎🏾
If only I knew how to use Unity or Unreal engine Id make a proper Gundam game.
