rap is genre which i think suffers badly when a record is overly 60 mins unless its concept record

    unless it's kanye

I’m enjoying a lot of music that’s been coming out and streaming has allowed me to discover artists I normally wouldn’t have.

what does this have to do with op’s question tho

decline in album quality doesnt mean you cant enjoy music that’s coming out

  • Aug 19, 2020

it has definitely led to a quicker turnaround period, so make of that what you will

their exceptions obvs but ye hasn't made record 70 + mins long

long records are good for other genres mainly stuff which needs to be more drawn out

I don’t think album quality has declined. I think it’s overblown.

People in 2010 probably said the same thing

  • Aug 19, 2020

yes at least when it comes to most mainstream artists

what about in the 60s when many artists and bands were pumping out records ever 6 months?

  • Aug 19, 2020

    Obviously yes

  • Unforgivable

I mean this kinda applies to Drake seeing as how he keeps bloating his albums with 20+ songs just for streaming

That’s why he put Toosie on a throwaway tape lmao

YALL CANT COMPREHEND HOW A MAN WHO CLEARLY ISNT OBSESSED WITH HITS ONLY COMES UP WITH HITS

So you create this f***ing idiotic narrative and point to Drake as some pop sham when he’s done nothing as bad as Kendrick’s songs with Maroon 5 and Taylor

  • Aug 19, 2020

Not in music quality, but album quality.

Culture of the moment is holding back artists from producing more cohesive projects. Obviously it's not all artists and not all albums.

These 20+ song albums and deluxe editions are clearly a decrease in quality. Half those songs would end up on the cutting floor before streaming.

Now they use everything. The feet, the giblets, everything.

I’d be interested to hear why not 🤔

Before streaming and free music downloading all an artist needed was a one hit single from their album because people had to buy the entire album just to listen to that one song. I'd argue artists in that time were even less inclined to put out a quality album because once they got a hit their album was gonna do numbers regardless of the quality.

Facts. In a way its good because we get a bit more music, but overall discography takes a hit

I think so, there are no consequences for releasing bad albums as long as the singles stream well. When we had to pay $15 per album, at minimum the majority of the album had to be good or that artist's career could be done.
Only a few mainstream rappers care about delivering a great album. R&B artists have bodied rappers in recent years when it comes to albums.

I'm in the minority. I still judge artists based on their albums, I don't really care how singles perform.

Also most of these artists are festival/ club acts, where they only have to perform only a few songs versus doing a full tour.

Yes, it has the artist dropping unecessary songs on their albums so they can get the streams
