or are people pre-determined to hate certain things before they even hit play?

I don’t know, I’m seeing a lot of disingenuous reviews towards Drake. Not the first one to cop pleas for him like he needs it, but it’s niggas with platforms and people that take their opinions seriously not even giving the art a fair chance due to pre-conceived hate. Think that’s just a sad way to listen to anything even if you may not like it cause you might get surprised. Same issues i have with people not willing to engage with Kendrick’s music or who call J. Cole’s music boring, like how do you even reach these conclusions if you aren’t already entering the project with hate? My homie scooped me on a late night the other day and he was playing Ocean Way, nigga that short 5 minute drive felt like a trip to somewhere else with the music on…but you can’t even allow yourself to have that experience cause “man I already know Cole is gonna be boring”

is it just a symptom of the times we’re living in?

I mean even "neutral" takes or legit critics get s***ted on if their neutral take still has a few more points more in the negative or positive - they will still called a glazer or a hater regardless

So tbh I don't blame ppl being full in glazers or full on haters right out the gate even tho it's lame - you're going to be put into on or the other bracket anyways, especially when it's at its most viral

That’s why the only opinion on music that will ever matter is yours

  • Most musice reviewers have their minds made up positive or negative before release

stan culture infiltrating its way into hip-hop killed genuine opinions. you cant offer real criticism (not hating) towards something without stans coping and then we have stans pretending that songs that are just good/ok are classics out of blind loyalty yet they cant even give you a fleshed out reason why.

  • Really there isnt such things as unbiased opinions. Nobody could go into an album with a completely clean slate and not consider past albums and whats the "cool" thing to do according to hive mind and what other people think

Everyone who was gonna hate was gonna regardless and everyone who was gonna like it was gonna like it regardless. With almost every artist not even just drake. Although you'll see alot of drake bashing because that's whats cool to do on social media rn.

That’s what I always do with Drake and anyone else. I always explain why I don’t like something and I always get push back even when I state it’s my PERSONAL opinion. That’s why I don’t really enjoy posting on here like that.

like i was in that thread seeing niggas who are real deal drake fans get dogpiled because they said there were songs they didnt like or one of the side projects wasnt hitting for them. this stan s*** got niggas lashing out at you if you dont follow the default opinion and worship every drop from a artist like its scripture, and my question is if that's how someone engages in hip-hop discourse why be on a site like ktt if you want an echo chamber? because i come on here mainly because i wanna see a variety of opinions

A lot of people definitely clicked play on those Drake albums last night ready to hate and get a viral tweet off. It’s embarrassing really

  • Too many performative drake haters still pressing play just to "hate". A real hater like myself? Haven't heard a drake album cut since Passionfruit. Probably never will again #CleanEars #NoNoisePollution #KeepDat

  • The discourse no longer matters. The Internet is a bunch of social influencers competing for some change. Posters compete for attention in the style of said influencers. Negative or positive. Your algorithm is a trough of slop designed to keep you running on the infinite scroll wheel. That's the material context. That's all there is.

There are few authorities people defer to. You can find one who tells you what you want to hear if you want. Find one you like to hate. Fantano. Pitchfork. Metacritic. Billboard. A random Twitter post with 25 likes that confers to your narrative. An AI chatbot.

I think art is something you hold sacred personally and interpersonally. The discourse around it is recreation. Don't confuse the two.

  • Tbh, this goes both ways.

Niggas will call something classic or AOTY while barely letting in sink in too.

People are so quick to call anything trash, classic, or mid on the Internet whenever something drops. It's just how Internet discourse has become.

Ofc quality always matters the most but this is Drake’s , he could drop the best album OAT and there will be someone hating.

I think this time that 3 tape approach works great, he catered to different fan bases. I personally like iceman less than the other albums and this opinion will be “trash” in the eyes of a rap head for example. But we all can agree it was a big surprise to find out he dropped more than 1 album.

  • When Drake drop it's both

like I hit skip on some of Habiti, but that’s cause it was 2am, I’m 30 songs deep, I knew what to expect from the song halfway through, and this nigga was crooning me to sleep not cause I hate it and didn’t listen lmaooo. if I hate it, that’s gotta take some time to properly say why

    🎯

  • All I know is Vince Staples and Big KRIT dropped better double albums than the Big 3.

  • Saw episode 4 and got all the Drake music I need. No desire to replay any of the songs in the episode or look up the name of the songs. That Bay Area joint was awful shoutout to P-Lo and his crew getting paid though.
