drakes masters are such a weird thing lol
I dont know what he owns post IYRTITL cause I know he renegotiated a deal then
but before that I think UMG own 66% and Aspire own 33%
im sure he wants them back im not sure whether thats the reason for the distribution deal
distribution makes sense for him either way imo because they'll promote it and put it on radio and fund a video and etc. it makes his success a priority for them whereas if hes independent and earning all the revenue theres no incentive for republic to promote it for him

    makes sense, thanks fam

is it possible for ye to get everyone to own their masters? 😳

    no lol
Kanye should do what people like Frank and Jay and Prince have been doing and encouraging new artists to sign deals that include their masters

look at people like Youngboy. labels will absolutely not let you get your hands on your masters if you've already signed them away unless you pay a small fortune
people who have already signed them away should be aiming to get them back but the best way to make change is to focus on people knowing what to do with their next/first contract and not making the same mistakes

I hope not but I dont get why he has to do all this s*** publicly

like just f***ing get in contact with vivendi or umg and then tweet once you've actually achieved something instead of acting like you just fixed an incredibly pervasive issue because you had a phone call with a board member

He ain’t trying to get MJ’d

bc he said in 2001 that he's gonna be the biggest rapper ever (on video)

and he said in 2013 tha the's going to be the tupac of fashion

you have to learn manifesting and kanye's career makes a lot of sense. he's speaking to you as the richest rapper in the world rn

greatest at manifesting of all time tbh. I respect how he puts whatever into the air no matter how stupid he looks at the time he says it and eventually accomplishes what he said he would do and more

i think u guys r really misinterpreting the non-billionaires tweet

he ain't saying he needs billionaire ppl to talk to cus he thinks they're superior ppl to others, he's saying it cus the billionaires r the ones running the game n he doesn't wanna be directed to a bureaucratic player (lucien, in this case)

however, i'm not sayin he's not being too ambitious here. i think the rzn he wants to talk to the billionaire leaders is that he wants to try to convince them to change their interests (which rllly likely wouldn't work) such that this whole new non-parasitic contract thing can happen

either that, or he actually has a plan that'd serve vivendi's interest of getting money while simultaneously serving artists' interests

and i'd be really surprised if that latter option were the case

point is tho, it doesn't need to be interpreted as simple hypocrisy. it can be, but i think that misses the point of trying to enact change quickly (which bureaucracy can prevent/outright block). that being said, i think it's rly easy to miss the point given how poorly he words things

I would agree if he didnt have a history of saying things like 'I dont take advice from people less successful than me'

and even so setting billionaires as the metric is way way too high. Lucien Grainge isn't even close to being a billionaire, Rob Stringer isn't a billionaire, most board members at vivendi won't be billionaires etc
there are plenty of people who have the power and are more likely to change things than the billionaires

Agree. I'm not sure the plan for new artists, but I think the plan should be spend as little as possible on your first release(s) and release an actual album and not mixtapes for the label to not count it as an album. And probably have something setup within the contract that gives the option to buy your masters.

    yea
ideally they have enough leverage to force master ownership from the go but even just a general awareness of what the advance means and the like can help them a ton
im a big fan of artists signing indie label contracts to begin with. you usually get master ownership, you dont need big label resources to start to pop off and you get a much better revenue split. only thing you lose is a bigger advance. then once you're popping you can either negotiate a favorable major label deal or go independent or re-sign indie
