yea just a lower cut and I think the hi fi cost lets them lift royalties a little higher as well
still makes a difference but yea
Ok so that's rly good but that's not really what Kanye is trying to solve here. He's trying to fix the label-artist power dynamic. I don't remember Jay ever doing that but correct me if I'm wrong
Sometimes its more comfortable for the label to handle all the business stuff
Unless you have a really strong team behind you you may not know where to start regarding distribution/marketing/touring etc
absolutely
thats why Drake is doing distribution deals still
I still think labels absolutely have a place in the industry. I just think they're prolonging their role as the be all end all by manipulating the fact that a lot of young artists dont realize they have options
@Demons
on another note you blessed me with the Brittany Howard album. love this album on first listen
when did I say he was wrong about everything? you just hear someone criticize kanye and get on the defensive
You’re literally criticizing when a black man for trying to get his masters back and change the industry to stop exploring artists
Pretty safe to say you refuse to acknowledge when he says something agreeable
What has Jay done? Not trying to debate I'm genuinely curious
Think a lot of people at Def Jam/Roc got their masters back
Rihanna got hers
J Cole got his last 2, Sony has the rest iirc
He real for this tweet tho
this facts I don’t even think their albums are on Spotify I’m tryna stream de la soul is dead
bro as im sure you know, when you are an artist on his level, money does not matter at all when it comes to getting your masters back
he’s stated multiple times he’s already tried to buy them back and they won’t let him. You think that because he’s a billionaire those people automatically respect him enough to just hand this freedom back to him or take a call with him about it just out of pure respect for his status, which is just a fantasy
the public’s reaction to this does not matter, all that matters is that it gets a reaction
oh yea the masters thing is a different story
im all for him raising hell about that its absurd
I just think the 'changing the industry' thing needs more nuance than him posting up pictures of random ceos
Think a lot of people at Def Jam/Roc got their masters back
Rihanna got hers
J Cole got his last 2, Sony has the rest iirc
that's good news
dont come at safe. actually a rational poster on here
Yeah a rational poster to me is not someone who cares more about public perception than the actual movement Kanye is trying to make

Nice that's good to hear I didn't know that
He real for this tweet tho

since a lot of y’all care more about the optics of s*** than what’s actually going on
Jared Kushner will have done more for peace in the Middle East than anyone in 30 years is nazi cocksucker s***. Supporting a president whose concentration camps are removing women’s uteri en masse right now is nazi cocksucker s***. I don’t give a f*** how much money you get from a bullshit y combinator but for music
@MrIndigo96 started watching Lovecraft Country its dope so far good lookin out
Yeah a rational poster to me is not someone who cares more about public perception than the actual movement Kanye is trying to make

no-one is mad at Ye's intent but the way he might be going about it is a little heavy handed and can be criticized. I agree with you on Ye's vision
Edit: I don’t even know why I typed all of this
But he is criticizing major labels tho lol, he might not be calling for independence exactly but he is calling for reforms in how labels conduct which will affect future artist A LOT sure there is a hint of narcissism in there and probably not gonna get anything done but overall the message is good and aspiring artist can just see this and see the fight for ownership
Ok so that's rly good but that's not really what Kanye is trying to solve here. He's trying to fix the label-artist power dynamic. I don't remember Jay ever doing that but correct me if I'm wrong
I mean Jay has been pushing for ownership of masters for a while now
he also helped frank get off his label deal iirc
the tidal thing does help the label-artist power dynamic a little as well just on the basis of it making music more financially viable and pressuring other services to raise royalties
dont get me wrong I think Jay can do a lot more
but hes definitely done more than Kanye has to date
