    Context: I’m not talking about songs that are just in uncommon time signatures all the way through, I’m referring to songs that are primarily in one time signature for the entire song, but have moments or measures where it switches to another.

    It’s not the most common thing, but I love it and think it can be super dope to hear! Here are a couple of my favorites:

    The majority of the song is in 4/4, but switches to 5/4 every fifth measure.

    The majority of the song is in 12/4, but switches to 10/4 every second and fourth measure of the hook.

    Post your favs!

    What’s this one?

    Also I always bring up Hey Ya when it comes to time signatures. Idk if it’s exactly that but there’s an odd amount of bars in the chorus, like 11 or 15 or something like that. Count the snares to keep track in the chorus!

    Hey Ya! is a great example! That’s in 4/4 for three measures, but goes to 2/4 for one measure, and then back to 4/4 for two measures

    So it’s 4/4 (3x) -> 2/4 (1x) - > 4/4 (2x), repeat

    Listen to the song and count it out like this and it’ll make sense
