Not saying this as a cop out but I think this album is a perfect example of just enjoy it for what it is. It’s like a love letter/send off for J Cole’s career akin to a retirement tour. Not saying this about you specifically but I think we as a collective spend way too much time discerning whether something is a classic or not and it’s like what does that really change either you fw it or you don’t

Yeah I acknowledge that he put that out into the world. At the same time though realistically no matter what he dropped people were going to argue it was and some would argue it wasn’t like that literally never changes in today’s world no matter what which is why the conversation itself is exhaustive to me personally. He dropped a project that I enjoy listening to and that’s all that matters to me

If it’s a classic to you that’s all that should matter not trying to be some Captain Planet s*** but honestly seeing our legends still active makes me happy getting music I love makes me happy and seeing people get appreciated for their work makes me happy. Only reason I still use the classic terminology is because im a millennial man so im stuck in my ways... I miss the days before overly cynical online culture. Before p4k and Fantano started s***ting on everything. When a good quality hip hop album would get that stamp from XXL or The Source and you just knew in your soul the music you appreciated was also being appreciated by the culture at large. S*** was a great feeling growing up.

This album reminds me a lot of that era tbh. Just great substantive hip hop music all the way through. I think this album and the effort that went into it and most importantly the high level rapping is more than deserving of appreciation and respect from the culture so ima always fly that flag personally
